The blog formerly known as "Angus Nicolson - an incredulous eye on the isles" this was the blog of an ordinary, boring, former Councillor in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Angus is taking a sabbatical to be with his young family

Wendy's donations
Cleared by the Electoral Commission?
Hardly.
It was a verdict of "guilty, but so small it was not worth bothering about".
By her own admission Wendy's campaign team broke the law - she knew Paul Green was not a UK resident - and she approved the 'concealment' of the donation (by suggesting it was from a Glasgow-based property company) when it first hit the public domain.
She is as guilty as sin, but like many others I'd prefer she stays in post - just for the craic.
whatever opinions one has on the mp or ex msp or any other public figure, surely comments like those of anon 12:02 and some that follow are highly innappropriate. I don't think you (Angus) would publish similar comments regarding your own good lady and i for one would rather not see them. I'm all for freedom of speech but the constant bickering on this blog between the local nats and lefties should at least be kept to political matters and of course at a push personal matters regarding the actual politicians but not their partners. I enjoy reading this blog and find it very entertaining and informative most of the time but all too often it descends into the kind of patter i haven't heard since the playground in primary school. Back on topic, wendy guilty as charged please do yourself and your party a favour and walk the plank.
Anon 7:02pm. There is sometimes a fine line between allowing and blocking a posting, and I tend to err on the side of allowing (although if the target gives me a good reason with which I agree, I will remove the comment).
The petty bickering is entertaining, if not enlightening, and I think it shines a light on those who make the comments; for that reason, I let them slag each other off.
A thick skin is needed in politics, and unless those who seek or hold office deal with the $hit thrown at them, then they aren't worthy of the position.
fair enough, but if these comments were coming from those in these positions then as our representatives or would be representatives then unfortunately we are all doomed regardles of personal beliefs. The petty bickering as you put it can be quite entertaining but on the whole is really pathetic. My point was and is that spouses and partners shouldn't really be included unless they themselves have raised their heads above the parapet. My posting wasn't totally aimed at you and your power to block such comments but really at the morons making them.
agreed and the same in business and every day life.. but.. we don't hear too many adverse comments regarding the spouses of brown,w bush, ming, charles kennedy, angus graham, maroot etc. etc. compared with the likes of blair and (bill)clinton whose partners believe they are and will do the job better (cant inlude thatcher for obvious and possibly unjustified gin related stories). The point remains if they don't get over involved then why pick them out for unfair attempts at point scoring..
Again not having a go at you personally but if by being in the game means all and sundrie attached to you are fair game isn't good enough. And i hope i'm right when i say that these comments do not come from those elected or those hoping to be elected but from sad stuck in their ways party political wannabes but please please never gonna be's
It is the foot soldiers on both sides. Representatives - again on both sides - are very well aware of this blog but aren't reckless enough to risk posting on here, even anonymously.
It makes for a bizarre battlefield. Always uppermost in the mind when reading comments is "What is your reason for being anonymous?"
As i have said before if you are going to post why try and stab someone in the back, by hiding behind the anonymous tag. I have no problem in calling our MP and MSP useless articles or worse but I will not hide behind the anonymous tag to do it.
Oh and by the way they are useless articles, and they personally know what I think of them.

my anonymity is through personal choice but mainly laziness. And i dont think any of my comments could be perceived at attempts to stab anyone anywhere, back or front
This will get top billing on the BBC.

Yes, but .. standing for election means that your entire family is exposed, whether you want it or not.
ReplyDeleteIf it is not said to your face, it will be said behind your back.
It shouldn't be but it is....

I would hope it's not our representatives that are involved in this political ping pong but just the foot soldiers.
