Qinetiq

With a meeting currently in progress at the Qinetiq range in Balivanich, bad news about the future of the range is expected by the entire community.

This seems to have happened at short notice, and without any announcement, but is going like wildfire through the community.

Careful, now. The Benbecula rumour mill is notoriously unreliable. Nuclear power station; super-sized prison; airport to close; centre for holding UK asylum seekers. All these stories spread like wildfire; all turned out to be false. And note they were all negative too.

Get Peter Carlin on the case

He seems like a really good Uist representative

There is plenty of engineering talent and skills in Qinetiq. With some left-field thinking, and support by HIE, there's a wealth of possibilities for development businesses. One example of many; the creative equipment being displayed at a recent show in Japan. That's the sort of export-oriented industry that could flourish on the Uists.

2:51PM - Okay to use on the Sabbath? Needs a Lewis Wind Farm to power it at top speed (150 a minute!)?

I hope the Rev. Coghill doesn't click on that link, or he'll have a stroke...

The range is in Fr. Michael's back yard you can't have these being made there even if Storas Uibhist could use it as an example of their success!

That pesky radar wont be in the road then if QiQ bites the dust

The lack of SNH desinations should see Archie Campbell and Thicky-thick-thick Carlin shouting for turbines, sorry dancing angels, across the windy lands.

    Watch out Uist.........

Remember Carlin is an expert in things that spin i.e old Zanussi's, so he should be up to speed on turbines. He might even have had some training from Angus Brendan and his experiments on Barra.

Carlin is about as much use as a one legged man at an arse kicking party

May be Uist readers might find this interesting It is a little slow loading but worth the wait.

And just for the record this is the sort of newspaper we could do with in the Western Isles, one which gets up the noses of Politicians

2:56 PM - what do you mean exactly by "stroke".

Actually, probably best not to answer that.
