If the consumption of alcohol is such a problem that we have to introduce minimum alcohol pricing to impose the health benefits on the public in Scotland; then why is it acceptable to triumph
the growth of sales of our national poison of choice - whisky - to China?

ReplyDeleteWithout doubt this is about £££. Nothing particularly wrong with that in my eyes.
As for the minimum pricing bill, that is about reducing access to alcohol to the more vulnerable members of our society. There is nothing wrong with that in my eyes either.
It could be argued it is also an imposition of the less well off, which is unfortunate.
For the majority of the people in this country, who drink moderate to large amounts of alcohol which does not fall into the high alocohol low cost bracket, it will matter not a jot.
Oh aye and the stuff that goes to the Chinesse will be so expensive only the rich will be able to access it. In a socialist country I might object to that.
So Moral dilema, not at all.
Perhaps the Chinese have more sense over the amount they drink?

ReplyDeleteIt's not going to happen. It'll end up with more crime to find the extra money that's needed to buy their booze. Ultimately it's a boon for the supermarkets who'll rake in more cash.
