Lockerbie bomber wins the lottery

The Times report that Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrah had £1.8m in a Swiss bank account when he was arrested.

The defence positions were either:
  • He was holding the money to pay bribes to third parties
  • He was holding the money to buy goods with cash to breach the embargo
  • He was part of the inner circle, all of whom were very wealthy by virtue of being part of the inner circle
Any of which make his claim that he was a minor employee of the Libyan Airways much less plausible.

All of which places the decision to release him more into the 'naive' camp and further from the 'humanitarian' camp.

Only time might tell....

Neither Libya or Megrahi have EVER said that he was a "low ranking airline official". He was formerly Head of Security for Libyan Airlines and at the time of the attack was Director of Centre for Strategic Studies in Libya. He belongs to one of the most powerful and wealthy Libyan tribes. The Times "report" is part of the black op misinformation strategy the US is waging. Can we deduce that everyone who has a Swiss bank account is similarly involved in terrorism? Despite what the Crown state now, at his bail hearing in 2008 they made no objection to his release because of this account which they knew of since 2000. Don't believe everything you read in the MSM, especially if its the Times or Telegraph.

If only someone could explain where the idea that Megrahi was a "low level worker" ever came from, it would be even more interesting than the utterly spurious and false claim that anyone has ever made such a suggestion. No one, either in support or against the release of Lybian 'super-spook', nor during the court case at Zeist has ever been under any impression other than he was a fairly high ranking member of the JSO.

Disinformation and smear appears to be the order of the day.

reading Angus' blog i thought one thing. Reading the two comments i thought another. The a third question came to mind. where had i got the idea that Megrahi was a low ranking official? and more to the point who spread it? Even more to the point why did they spread it? It is unusual to spread a story like this unless you know it will help you at a later date...

just a thought...
