With friends like this.....
will not seek re-election at the next General Election
So little chance of him influencing the next Defence Select Committee.....
The blog formerly known as "Angus Nicolson - an incredulous eye on the isles" this was the blog of an ordinary, boring, former Councillor in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Angus is taking a sabbatical to be with his young family
Debate strengthens democracy, except inside the SNP, as he has discovered.
If you want balance then get some scales. This is opinion - our opinion.

Any proven errors of fact made will be corrected in the original article, or by publishing a correction at the same degree of prominence, or both. As far as practical, others who have quoted the article will be requested to make a note in their article - this would include, for example pinging back with the correction those who had linked to the original piece.
If articles are ever removed, a statement of why that has been done will be left in situ.

Well The Barra Bhuoy will be joining him after the next election.
Anyone see this crusty old bastard ask a question about the rocket range at last weeks scottish questions? He gave a look accross the chamber to the barra bhoy longing for approval.Strange deal there.
Laudrup, please, please tell me it wasn't MacNeil and Key staying in the Union Jack club with only a toblerone and a minibar for company.
I hope MacNeil kept his jacket on like he did in Orkney......
Why has the member for Salisbury been so busy on behalf of the member for Na h-Eileanan an Iar? And why is latter member never in the House of Commons? Even when matters like the Lewis windfarms cross the chamber? Hope the SNP put up a chocolate teapot as PPC for the Western Isles, at least that has some purpose.
love today's dilbert! 03/12/09
The man is coming up to 65 he is entitled to leave and make room for a younger person. We dont need him we have the saviour of the Isles Brian Wilson.
Is that you Rona?
Did Kenny Flip let you get away from filing and making tea to play with the computers?
Shouldnt some kind soul send a carrier pigeon to the clowns at the Greysheet, as they toil with their quills, with a message to tell them the latest tidings from Salisbury?
Ochone ochone, it wass neffer ass bad ass this when yon Donnie Cassette wass in charge!
Outside of Mr Keys, Angus B has other friends that are doing him damage!
There is that wonderful recent press release where the local branch accuse Donald J MacSween of 'politicking' when he dares to criticise Roseanna Cunningham for her silly statement about Harris Tweed.
It's an unusual term of abuse to describe an aspiring politician. I would have thought 'politicking' was part of the job description.
'But', says Angus B,Alasdair and Kenny, 'we won't have any of that in our new Scottish democracy. To criticise the Minister for her Rural Affairs for the damage she might be doing to a rural industry. It's just not acceptable!'
Did anyone hear the interview on radio nan gael by Donald John Mackay - of nike fame. He lambasted roseanna cunningham and the snp. 'They've done nothing for the industry now they are trying to ruin us'. And did anyone spot the local snp attempt at being clever-----'snp spokesman said'-----no sign of dumb and dumber. Their press office would have gone into meltdown if a Unionist politician said anything close to mad Roseanna......

with regard D.J's interview I am in no doubt that the snps Roseanna cunninghams comments, lack of any decent apology or credible explanation are indeed damaging to the tweed industry.
But it aint stopping at the tweed, no siree! just look at the utter turd that our enterprise company has become, a body that was set up to help develop business in small communities and rural areas, to help them get on their feet or to modernise or upgrade their services or premises or whatever.
They now cannot supply anything but advice unless you are a large national or international company that comes along, takes a few mil then buggers off once they have had enough. The capital that was once injected into small business that would be so greatfully recieved given the present grey economic climate has all but dissapeared since the SNP came to power, except the millions poured into Arnish. Perhaps Arnish should be renamed Phenoix holdings :D
Trouble is I don't think any of our political parties would bother their arses to change anything or do anything whatsoever about it. Its not about the wee guys, its about showing face and polishing shite, all image and no sustinance of any description. I, and I am sure plenty of other joe mcbloggs, am utterly apathetic with politics, politicians and the whole system. There is not one person or party that ignites the smallest of spark within me. It is not about policy or doing whats best, it is all about slagging off your opponents so you look slightly less full of bollocks. Whats the point in even voting for these grey men and women?
At least if George Galloway and Nick Griffin were head of the two main parties the debates would be hilarious and perhaps provoke some kind of interest from the 60 odd percent of our country that probably won't bother voting next election.
Deary me, talk about going off on a rant, no hangover in sight to blame either.
1.31 You can't blame the SNP for Arnish that was well and truly a labour invention, and the finances show that - ask that Brian!
Thats not to say that there aren't lots of other things to blame the SNP for......javascript:void(0)
Are the SNP responsible for Javascript too? The b*stards!

I wasn't getting at the fact that Arnish itself, it's more that I am iritated by the way H.I.E has been remoulded and completely removed from its original remit by the SNP. Mr Salmond must have had a particular dislike of the way the old set up directly supported the little people and their little businesses. It's ok to bung a couple of million into a big business but small businesses who benifited from the former H.I.E are probably refered to as scroungers.
H.I.E is only able to support what is deemed high growth businesses, I.e Arnish, no matter how many times it fails and how many millions are wasted.
Surely the key to a vibrant rural economy is to support and encourage a wide range of diverse employment and small businesses, not a few big guns that don't really care what happens.
The less diverse employment oppertunities become the more likely young folk will be to up sticks and clear off.
To Quote H.I.Es "about" page:
*Supporting high growth businesses and sectors, so raising growth rates across the area
*Strengthening communities, especially in the fragile parts of the area
Frankly, I don't feel these two targets go hand in hand at all.
I was glad when the SNP came to power as I felt they would actually offer a decent alternative to the crashing bores of Labour. But they are no different and care about ticking boxes and image just the same. All spin and shite, and not really caring about the people they are actually meant to represent.
Serve and protect or swerve and neglect. Politicians always choose the latter as it is easier, doesn't matter what colour the rosette is.
I think all these gales are affecting my chirpy demenour. I'll have to go join the masses and panic buy bread tommorow morning.
