Sunday sailings - the politicans speak

Two politicians were asked for their opinions and they gave their various non-committal and vague responses.

A third (who wasn't asked) actually had the courage of his convictions to say what he believes and act in a responsible, and respectful, way.

You may not like what he says, but at least Cllr MacSween is grown up enough to answer the question and let you know where he stands.

Kudos.

I have never voted labour but take my hat off to Councillor MacSween for taking a stand for what he believes in.

He is one of few politicians within the Islands who put the local views first before politics and parties.

It's just a shame that there aren't more like him.

Eh??!! I'm English and I don't understand that funny talk

8:01 and 9:10 - 8:14 was asking if you were Donald John (MacSween), but using his Gaelic name

Funny talk indeed.

Though I thought he resigned because his views on Sunday ferries conflict with "The Council's" stand? What has that got to do with local views and politics and parties?

Yes, I'm glad to see Cllr Macsween standing by his principles on this issue. I thought ABM's response was fairly balanced although he's obviously trying to keep everyone happy.

Angus, about time you renamed your blog an incredulous eye on the SNP. The quality has plunged since you were ex-communicated. We get it, they treated you like crap. Time to move on though.

Every other post these days seems to be some excuse to slag off the MP and the MSP, often on the thinnest of pretexts. As a result this blog has become a place where NuLab supporters come to have their opinions confirmed and SNP supporters come to have childish arguments with the above.

And before the barrage begins, I'm not SNP or NuLab, Tory or LibDem or any other political zombie. I have the utmost respect for the UK, Scotland, moats, mock tudour beams, toblerones and hair gel.

To be fair to all Angus you should add jean Davis to this she too has made a stance on the matter.

Angus, your poll on Sunday ferries doesn't have a 'Don't Know' option. I find that this option is very useful when I want to participate in a poll but don't want to commit to anything. In this case, the absence of the 'Don't Know' option means that, apart from myself, two of the most important people in the islands (MP & MSP) are unable to take part in the democratic process.

DJ's standing for Labour in the election. If his "strong personal" views conflict with Labour's view on any issue, will he resign from the party? Shouldn't last long!!

9:28 is right: the first comment doesn't seem to make sense. Hats off to him/her for never having voted Labour though. I made that terrible mistake in 1997 and regretted it ever since.

So they came up with statements within the 24 rour time period, but why? are they the lackies of LDOS? or are they so afraid of the religeous aspect of the way of life here that they will do just as LDOS ask? As has rightly been said already what would LDOS have done if they hadn't come up with some sort of response in 24 hours? Are LDOS happy now? Are we the electorate happy that we now know that something that we had quessed all along that our MP and MSP can't be definite about anything? What hair brained suggestion/request will LDOS come up with next?

To many questions, to little time, and who really cares anyway? Just bring on the Ferries 7 days a week 24 hours a day.

Councillor MacSween gets my vote just for having the guts to resign over this issue, shame there aren't more like him at the Comhairle.

1:38, Cllr Macsween hasn't resigned over this or any other issue. He has offered his resignation to the next Transporation Committee meeting and it will only be after meeting that we know if he is actually out of there or not.
