Google Street View

The islands are now scanned and digitised.

Find your home, your business or just spy on your neighbours, all from the comfort of your PC.

The diaspora can now see all the changes to town, without the need to come here!

There is a prize for the first person to find an embarrassing picture on the islands, such as this one from Finland (just about SFW). Follow the links at the bottom of the story for other examples (NSFW)

I've found one of John MacLeod on his luxury yacht in Stornoway harbour, sunbathing on board while his young assistant ghost-writes his next letter to Hebrides News.

Unfortunately I can't seem to upload it to this blog. Can I have my prize anyway?

Yours speculatively,
Anon.

While not an entry to the competition, I note that no-one has yet submitted an entry to Google for HS1 2BW. I wonder who'll get there first: the Press Office - or someone else ?

HS1 2BW update: If you do a bit of navigation with the arrows you can get to see the Shitehouse complete with yellow van. You can also keep an eye on Engies to observe the roaring trade in bacon rolls. Someone called for tracking devices a couple of posts ago. Prayers answered?

Also can we request that Tescos is Googled to get the low down on who's car is getting wolloped in the pea sized parking places.

I will triple the prize if you ever see one of our council members on ChatRoulette and provide evidence...

Not so up to date, by these maps, the Carloway day centre has not even had the foundations cut, far less appears as a building....... perhaps it's only selected areas of the Isles,a bit like the council and it's workings!

That link to the smashed windscreen is something else!

Thanks for this, I found some very interesting street views and even found myself (though in a totally decent clothed state LOL)

Its very disconcerting to see oneself or ones house/car etc but at the same time its awesome to be able to see 360 degrees on deserted roads and see the landscape so ........hmmm

I used Google Earth all the time but had not checked out the street views yet, so again thank you.

Saw a few funny ones LOL ;)

Well I'm just glad they sent the car round during the summer. Can you just imagine how many tourists would take one look at the islands in winter and say 'bugger that we'll go to the Channel Islands instead!'

11:21 the aerial photographs were taken in April 2005. Therefore the daycentre won't be there. The street views were taken last year so it should be. select the correct optioon and it will appear (if the camera car drove past it). Simples
