The truths they don't want you to read....

Beinn Mhor Power Public Local Inquiry

I had a most entertaining morning - OK, an hour - at the PLI this morning where I read my precognition and was then cross examined.

One Freudian slip in reading my precognition, where I called the Head of Economic Development, Calum Iain MacIver, by the name of my neighbour, Callum Iain MacMillan; which certainly insulted one of them, and possibly both.

No questions from SNH; some sensible, incisive (but fair) questions from the John Muir Trust; and some simple questions from Dr Finlay, representing MWT.

A whispered aside (perhaps deliberately loud) from Counsel for SNH, "Here's something from the man on your right's blog from last night. It will give you a laugh." (I was on her left!)

Exit stage left, leaving Mr MacIver and then the Vice-Convener to face the much, much, more intensive questioning.

I am told they didnt even bother with you Angus. Calum MacIver I am told was a nervous wreck and SNH and JMT ran a coach and horses through the Arnish arguments.

However, Finlay MacLeod did walk out the lions den have stuffed many of the high and mighty for taking bungs. Seems we have two corrupt councillors.

Add to that he managed to get in the Sunday issue, it sounds like 2-0 to MWT to me.

Why can't there be evening sessions so us workers can go and see this theatre?

But it is you who is reading my blog at 4:37am. :-)

Yo Angus, unlike you to not report skulduggery. What about all these independent witnesses actually having their statements prepared by Oppenheims lawyer. That sounds bloody dodgy to me, especially as there are councillors involved. Annie is refusing to admit as yet but Maclean is brazen.

I wasn't bothered particularly by him speaking to support the causeway but the man should now resign.

Main event was Brian Wilson embracing Oppenheim with a man-hug I believe.

Now Mr Wilson - what is your line on lairds and private landlords again...........

Led by Toad of Toad Hall they all have vested interest in these Wind farms arriving - I wonder how much work Phil MacLean has been promised for their future? Bankrupt McDowall, Two faced MacIver and the once Convenor MacKay (I want a interconnector in my garden)have been in the pocket of Oppinheim for years now the Laird of Eishken is adding more so called 'great and the wise' to his entourage.

The people of Kinloch and Pairc are overwelmingly against these developments yet Big Annie and Slick Phil run with the developer. Stinks

I hear Annie and Philip are to be expelled from the SNP for not doing as told by the MP and MSP. Annie will leave anyway, when the application is refused.

Two stories on Hebrides News today stating that Angus Campbell and Angus Nicholson are liars.

Blimey - dynamite! It is confirmd we do have a corrupt lying council.

If this is the type of thing that public enquiries flush out, lets have more of 'em! I hope that the Chief Exec will rise above this and suspend the Vice Convenor till a public investigation is complete.

It is the only way the Council can rise above this gutter filth that is tarnishing the islands.

Be careful or I'll pass your IP address to the Council.....

Actually I heard that Angus performed very well, and demolished the vague arguments put forward by MWT and the John Muir Trust.

Some of the reports from those present differ enormously from the comments here and on Hebrides News, which both seem to be MWT mouthpieces.

Anon 8:10 - stop getting so excited and read the reports.

If you think the Chief Ex can suspend ANY Councillor then you obviously have no understanding of democracy.

MWT are really trying to generate lots of smears, irrespective of the facts.

Hebrides News generally presents facts. It doesn't appear to be scared to criticise the SNP, Labour, MWP, LWP, etc as necessary.

This blog is opinion.

Any apology to Annie MacDonald for maligning her?

I knew that she had paid for all the legal advice herself, but wasn't able to say.

I'm waiting for that public apology....

Read the report on Heb news, and would be interested to see the bill! Perhaps it can be framed and hung on the wall in the Crit?!

Sounds like Mr Randall dropped a clanger. Did ex Convenor Mackay get questioned on who paid his bill?

However that leaves the others ....

I also believe that the Gazette had no journalists present at the inquiry at all - so it will be interesting to see what they report. As such they can only take it from third parties and cut and paste the offical Comhairle line as they always do.

Apology from who ?

Anonymous said...

I think you mean "From whom?".

Cllr McLean will have to declare the sums on his Register of Interests, so that will be enlightening.

Does anyone know what the local SNP policy is on windfarms? As the SNP are all over the place.

Give the big lass credit I guess- she took to the stand and said her piece.

Where was the convenor? Malcolm Burr? Bill Howatt? Keith Bray? McKim?

Did Oppenheim ever take the stand? I believe not. You would think he would at least have the courage to do that.

Hebrides News has some more stories from the inquiry.

Looks like ex convenor MacKay has had legal fees covered by the developer.Dear oh dear.

The question still beckons. Who would give £21M to these guys. You can't tell us Angus (in you capacity as a leading island money man) that any financial institution would give these guys anything like this amount, especially as one of the three directors is a bankrupt (and a leading light in the calamity of Aline Forest)and that they have no collateral. North Harris can at least offer their land as equity for their £6M (do the community know that by the way?), but this trio dont even have that option.

Add to that Mackay and his background with the BCCI fiasco. That really is a dream team.

When do we get an inquiry result. Could it take years like Lingering Bay?
