Stornoway Town Centre
Completion really cannot come soon enough, but I suspect the tourists will have gone long before it is ready.
You know my views on the whole matter - appalling timing (albeit forced upon the Council by the Scottish Government), not well thought through (toilets open closed and open again) and the loss of parking for why, exactly?
However, that being said, I think it will add to the amenity of the town, just as long as this seasons tourists don't think that this place is a permanent building site.
Now, just what can we use the area for?

Agreed, timing of this was atrocious. Or was it fantastic idea to do this in the worst summer for years? Oh hindsight is fantastic.
Anyway once it is here it is here to stay and I think the town will be a better place for it.
...and now the school holidays are over - lets dig up the Manor roundabout!! As a matter of interest as the Town centre plans were due to finish in mid July, who is paying for all the extra man hours of work?
The whole thing is a disgrace. The town needs more parking, not less, public amenities to keep people in town longer, a town hall that is used for community events and a pretty market town for the tourists.
The Council officers who agreed this should be taken out and read the riot act.
A massive missed opportunity. Perceval Square should have been closed to traffic. Stornoway could have had a genuine civic square. Why allow all that through traffic which could, and should, be on Matheson Road. Additional parking could then be provided on South Beach (no through traffic) and outside the Royal Bank (also no through traffic.)
All that is being achieved by the current works is expensive kerbs and pavements for a road, when what we should be getting is not a road but a square.
And still pedestrians will have to stand in the rain waiting to cross at the crossing instead of having priority.
Manor Park is to be redeveloped so wind turbines on the back of giant lorries can take the corner.
On the same topic why is a private developer submitting plans to do roadworks on the Stornoway to Eisgein road. Much upheavel in Balallan. Surely if works are to be done the roads department should do it and bill the developer?

I'd rather have that town 'square' area over 20 odd parking spaces any day of the week.

Could the realignment not be simply to prevent the traffic jam in the morning caused by drivers who do not know the highway code in relation to round about use
What a waste when the Council cuts will cut the Maws coming in by half.
8.34pm Where can one obtain the info about the private developer and the roadworks on the STY to Eisgein road?
PS What has happened to the post concerning the broadband CU?!
I think it looks crap and the fact they got rid of the mature trees for (VERY EXPENSIVE) spindly little things that are not suited to our environment is a crime.
One new tree is already dead.
There is no variety to the space - its all just slabs.

Is that you miss darling?
Can you all not see it was built for the ''European'' Market??
It was created by and for the new Provist of Stornoway XXXX XXXXXXX (submit your own prefered culprit).
and Charlie's Chrismas sing along. God, just had a thought, hope the happy clappers arent going to be over there every Saturday. Maybe we could get one of these walls that go up round them like they have in the Art Centre.
Eishken road works is in online planning from a couple of weeks ago.
Can someone explain what amenity has actually been improved? The way I see it, there appears to be less amenity than before in Perceval Square with the loss of car parking. Maybe I'm wrong, but the pathway seemed in reasonably good order beforehand! So what was the actual problem that needed all the changes?

excuse the mega link, but this shows that Land Use Consultants, Mr Oppenheimers consultants, are promoting the roadworks
