The next Labour candidate

So the short list of three is in, and we are all wondering just who will be the Ed Milliband and who will be the Diane Abbott?

I've been in contact with all three candidates recently, one of whom denied he was on any list (like I believed him!), one of whom came in for a wonderfully amiable chat about everything and anything, including some very indiscreet observations that I will not be repeating, and one of whom regularly emails me his insights.

Actually, I have to say that it is the omissions from the list that are the most significant.  Two strongly touted potential candidates haven't put their names forward, and frankly I think that they were absolutely correct not to get involved at this time.

It is most certainly an interesting race, and my soundings indicate that Kevin Paterson seems to be the early leader.  Thankfully, they only have three weeks to bore the party electorate into submission before the end of the phony war turns into a most interesting contest.

As the local SNP have repeatedly said that national trends are more important than local issues, it will be interesting to see how they intend to defend, whilst seemingly on the back foot.

Copies of the candidates' manifestos gratefully received for wider dissemination.  Leaks from candidates of their own material will be given the anonymous treatment.

I hope now that you have seen this depressingly awful list of AA competition that you are planning to throw your own hat in the ring, Angus...

Only one name known widely, it will be interesting to see what the other two bring to the table.

At least Mr Mcsween got the message and has not put his name forward. His apparant popularity amongst the Labour group ( at election time ) seems to have sunk faster than the Titanic.
Surely the popular candidate Calum Iain will walk this competition.

Hell I better get back to work Alistair has just walked in !!

Did they really elect Ed Milliband?? The future's bright - not!

Can see Macmillan writing more poisonous letters as he did the last time he was rejected by the members.

He is nothing but a spoilt brat who always got his own way, and if not threw the toys out of the pram.

Apparently his nickname down the Rangers Club is Blunket as he is usually blind drunk and has his guide dog with him.

Who He, Who He and Callum Iain. Callum Iain should walk it. Well er he has no choice has he? Oh yeah he has a bike

If you listen very, very carefully . . . shhhhh, listen . . . yep, I think we can hear the local SNP falling about laughing.
Seriously? CI MacMillan or Kevin Paterson. That's it? The has-been or the never-was. From where I'm standing, even old DJ looks like the dream candidate.

Sorry Kevin Paterson, Alex Neil's Housing Policy advisor. Christ the Labour Party must be desperate.

Calum Iain would be taking more than a Toblerone from the mini bar!!

what is Patersons background? He claims he works in the Scottish Parliament and for HHP. I have checked and he is not listed as being employed by either. Nobody seems to know anything about him, is there anything he is hiding from the Labour Party?

Kevin Paterson said...

Here we go who am I:
I work as a volunteer for HHP on their board of management. I am chair of the western Isles Forum of Tenants and Residents Associations.
I am also a volunteer on the The Bayhead Bridge Centre Board.
I am Chair of the Glasgow and Western Isles Tenant's Regional Network. Also a member of the national network again all voluntary work.
I am on Alex Neil's Policy Advisory Group on Housing Policy which meets in the Parliament this is also an unpaid voluntary position.

Thanks for clearing that up Kevin. Now that you've sorted out ALL your background I will definately be voting for you in May!

It's got to be Callum Iain. He gets it. He's got it and he's a go getter. It's a one horse race - his record as a community activist, councillor, leading the management of Lews Castle College and all round great guy bodes well for the western isles. He's our man. ps even heard his former teacher, Maroot is backing his candidacy.

Poor Kevin Paterson. You were obviously failed by the last Labour government. So many skills and yet no gainful employment . . .

Also, "Glasgow and Western Isles Tenant's Regional Network"?? That's an unusual grouping, to say the least. The Western Isles have almost nothing in common with Glasgow and that is about the only reason the WILP will have for picking MacMillan over Paterson.

Don't know any of the candidates personally and don't have a vote in this but can someone clear up for me - is Calum Iain the one who writes sarcastic and spluttering and sometimes incoherent anti-SNP letters to Heb News?

9.40 am SOMETIMES....INCEHEROONT??? He's positively feckin mystical.

9.40am,

Yes, that's the fellow. Impressive, no? Bet you wish you had a vote now . . .

12.09 - yes, ok, I was trying to be subtle (and even so I am just waiting to be accused of being a cybernat, which is another cult I'm not part of. You're all as bad as each other, boyos.)

Well if you all think you could do a better job I suggest you sign up and bloody well do so! C.I Macmillan is going to get the position and as for you Mr Paterson you will find I have dug out a lot on you over the last few months, You're standing for a laugh right? word on the street is that you claim to work closely with one of my good friends in the Scottish Parliment? you are unlikely to win this seat should you get the candidates position which is highly unlikely but again can't rule anything out with labour these days. As for the SNP, they aren't doing anything in parliment apart from smoking big cigars and laughing at all you island folk. The way I see it is why should you vote for a party that hasn't done anything apart from "RET" which is a fancy name for the subsidy. To conclude, since I know C.I has cleaned his act up I think he stands a valid chance at this seat! Good luck to him!
