Multiculturalism

I've just watched Sky discussing David Cameron's assertion that state multiculturalism has failed.

The English Defence League (sic) are marching through Luton today in an attempt to stir up racial hatred, so they cut to an interview with the two Labour MPs for Luton.

Cue outrage about Cameron's speech.

The presenter then - quite rightly - asked them as simple question: "Do you believe that all cultures are equal?"

Both MPs (and I paraphrase) then waffled endlessly around the subject, saying how complex it was, and how we had welcome the Hugenots, and why it can't be boiled down to a simple yes or no.  But, probably, perhaps, if you aren't upset by what I say, then maybe they are or they aren't, but I wouldn't like to commit.

What a disgrace they are to their constituents and the wider public by pandering to the racist elements in the EDL and by being unable to recognise or speak a simple truth about humankind.

Are all sexes equal then Angus - do you support a culture that requires three male witnesses to a female rape? Do you support stoning for a female victim of rape?

Try spending a week in Luton like I have just done and you will see why yhe EDL have so much support, and why you at at it, explain why there is muslim police association but a white police association would not be allowed as it would be RACIST

It'll never work. There's too much class discrimination in this country. It starts at the top with the PM and the deputy PM and goes all the way down the ranks of society. We will have to become a socialist state for multiculturalism to have any chance of working.

Cameron is right and has the balls to say it rathyer than pusyfooting about.
For that matter multiculturism is not working in the Western Isles either and our heritage and culture is being diluted and destroyed by the influx of incomers. The Comhairle (pronounced "Kola" by most Isles FM announcers) does not help matters either by importing hundreds to build our new school.

6.52pm, Multiculturalism did not do too well in he former Soviet Union and does not do well anywhere on Planet Earth, unfortunately.

The idealistic view that people with radically different lifestyles can live in harmony fails to take into account one basic fact: people of like mind, ethic grouping or language gather into gettos.

This kind of social experimentation has in my opinion failed rather miserably. You either become a Citizen of the UK, adopting its language(s), mannerisms and laws or go elsewhere.

8:20 AM Ah, the usual hypocritical double-standards racism. What's it like being a racist? Do you hide your copy of Mein Kampf behind your bible every time the church elder visits?

It's always amusing to see small-minded island racists complain about people coming the islands from "other parts of Britain"

...while remaining deathly silent about grants and funding, paid for ultimately by the taxpayers of "other parts of Britain", gushing into the islands. Like, the islands could support themselves? How?

It would be an interesting experiment to see if the islands could be self-sufficient economically and financially. Or, basically, to see how long it would take before they regressed to some kind of primitive level.

And that's even before considering the increasing necessity to add some variety to the local gene pool...

Wish I could catch fish as easily.........as a matter of fact I paid close on £20k in Income Tax last year, received no grants and have paid my way all my life so don't give me that tired old buulshit. Ah I forgot I now get free bus travel and four "free" ferry trips per annum.......

6.32 pm Ah the usual perpetuation of negative stereotypes. It’s always amusing to hear from enlightened literate and broad minded people from the mainland.
I don’t know how we managed before people like your good self came along to point out the error of our small minded ways. Your well constructed argument will certainly cause a debate in our family. Are there any clubs or societies I can join so I can join in your happiness.

It doesn't work in London either where the culture is being diluted by all these Gaels talking Gaelic; meeting at Gaelic events; and taking the jobs of Londoners.

And look at the way the American cultures were swamped by the influx of economic migrants in the early 19th century by non-English speaking Highlanders going over there and stealing all their jobs. And they still haven't mixed in to the culture with their Caber tossing and bagpipe playing....

bloody incomers.

Lazy Chicken could you open your dictionary and look up the words big and small and see whether they have any relevance to your argument. All this liberal hogwash is disingenuous. People should be free to like what they have and moan like hell when they see it change for what they rightly or wrongly perceive as the worse. Your fancy arguments have no impact on what many people feel in their gut.

The island could teach the EDF a fair bit about racism. Hate mainlanders all you like but the UK has bent over backwards (maybe to a fault?) to welcome all comers. No-one is really welcome here except relations.

9:08 Plenty of clubs and organisations, most of which are set up to 'catch a passing grant', as the local phrase goes. Well, until the money tap is gradually turned off over the next few years.

Oh, and do keep fighting the incomer integration. I mean, having no incomers really worked out well for those plucky inbr...locals on St Kilda, didn't it?

Relations?
"You can choose your friends but not your relations"
The more I see of people the more I love my dog..............

Loving your dog eh? Wonder what the elders would say about that.

Wrong. It was actually previously unknown diseases brought in by tourists that helped finish many of them off.

I see the rest of Britain is doing a fantastic job in supporting itself. How much do we owe again?

I don't think its altogether fair to blame tourists...

10:01 Always the incomers fault, isn't it? Never, ever, the fault of the local natives. Funny, that...

I thinks the American Indians might have a thing or two to say about welcoming incomers with open arms! The incomers did not exactly treat them as equals did they?

I was only correcting 4.11AM, and I blamed what's called virgin soil epidemics. I said nothing about "always the fault of the incomers." Try reading it properly next time, without the obvious chip on the shoulder.

Fortunately most incomers are like most locals, nice decent people. However, you will always get the arrogant and patronising types, as per previous comments. If you look around the islands you will notice war memorials, a sign of how much our people have given to this nation. Could the North East of England for example, support itself without some form of Government assistance. It is pretty obvious that the South East of England is geographically advantaged, in terms of being nearer to markets. Most incomers are welcome as far as I'm concerned, it's just the patronising few who are not.

Did you see the Dispatches programme on Channel 4 last night - Lessons in Hate and Violence? There's your explanation why multiculturalism will never work. It was shocking to see such brutality to children, the stirring up of pseudo-Islamic hatred against uk society and positive encouragement not to mixing and integrate with society. It seems Enoch Powell was more accurate than he is given credit for. Freedom of speech is one thing but when our democracy is being undermined then its a much more sinister and dangerous development which has to be tackled head on. Having seen the programme, it raises key questions about whether we should tolerate any form of religious schools in uk society. These muslim schools had been visited by so called inspectors and given a clean bill of health despite previous allegations of violence to children. They are now out of control, and are being used to brain-wash children with physical violence and encouraging them to pursue anti social and racist behaviour and worse. I urge you all to see it if you've not done so to see what Cameron is facing.
