Rumour of the day...
There is no substance whatsoever in this story.
The blog formerly known as "Angus Nicolson - an incredulous eye on the isles" this was the blog of an ordinary, boring, former Councillor in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Angus is taking a sabbatical to be with his young family
Debate strengthens democracy, except inside the SNP, as he has discovered.
If you want balance then get some scales. This is opinion - our opinion.
Any proven errors of fact made will be corrected in the original article, or by publishing a correction at the same degree of prominence, or both. As far as practical, others who have quoted the article will be requested to make a note in their article - this would include, for example pinging back with the correction those who had linked to the original piece.
If articles are ever removed, a statement of why that has been done will be left in situ.
The rest is entirely at my discretion.

Given all the reasons not to build windfarms on Lewis, including the fact that doing so may actually violate EU regulations in certain areas, and given the 11,000 objections to them--and only 100 in favor--the average citizen is inevitably--justly or otherwise--going to assume 'other motives' were at work, no?
I fear this is an issue which is henceforth going to plague the reputation of those who voted for large-scale windfarms. It's not going to be easy for them, living amongst those who will always look askance, and who will talk knowingly amongst themselves, only to fall silent as the subject of their conversation walks past. Such is human nature, I fear. But then, the Comhairle showed its utter contempt for the citizenry, acted high-handedly and undemocratically, and is now being repaid with equal contempt by those it slighted.
In such an atmosphere, I'm only surprised that such mischievous allegations haven't floated about much earlier--and not just regarding the Comhairle, but concerning councils all across the land. Indeed, I expect at some point there will most likely be some form of official UK government 'where did we go wrong?' (ans: stupid ROC obligations) inquiry into the whole 'windfarm' stampede as the full scope of the scam becomes clear; perhaps around the time the UK experiences its first major blackouts.
Not saying that anyone IS actually accepting 'inducements', merely that the Comhairle's councillors' recent conduct will in fact lead to rumours of this sort; and given the longevity of memory, I wager such rumours will only grow over time the more the targets attempt to deny their truth. Sad, but unfortunately true.
You have my sympathies! I don't know what you can do other than to issue periodic strenuous denials. It's very hard to counter 'whispering campaigns', since there's no single person to rebut.
100 years from now...we have no windfarms......just a bird sanctuary.....Lewis will become the next St Kilda. Oh how future generations will thank us...
second anon. Think before you speak,(or rather write), the reason St Kilda went out of business is quite clear - they failed to give the future generations what they wanted and needed... they did not keep up with the times... and now it is only fit for birds - let us hope we do not make the same mistake!
