24 hour shopping
The new Tesco has announced that it will be open non-stop from 8am on Monday until 6pm on Wednesday coming, and it looks like the same again the following week.
Booze, of course, cannot be sold before 8:30am or after 10:55pm, so if - like local beautician Mary MacLeod (right) - you have been thrown out of the Clachan or Lewis, and your taxi to the party at whoever's house is delayed, don't bother trying to pick up a newspaper and a half-dozen Irn-Bru Wkd.
I might wander down just to take some photos of the 3am rush on wholemeal pitta bread, just for posterity.
Of course, I might end up there if there is a nappy emergency one night.
How can the local shops compete.....

maybe 3am isn't a good time to collect my GT then
Oh! Bugger!
GT meeting @ discreet house in Vatisker, Back, every weekend. Look for coded messages about times and places in 'personal' section of the Gazette.
09:59 pm I saw the Beach Boy in town on Sat. Coincedence?
He was near Woolies but I didn't see him go in! {:-)
The local stores can't compete on hours (unless they employ more staff).
However, how will the co-op reply to this most unfair change of tactics! {:-)))))
It will be interesting if they extend this, as it means it'll probably be the only store in the country that can claim to be open 24/6 ...
As Tesco has little or no food/fresh veg on the shelves during normal opening hours, what will they be selling at 3.00am apart from nappies?
I saw Beach buoy at the aiport last week sporting a pair of shoes that hadn't seen shoe polish for about eight years. Clearly they are out of stock of this item at Gordon Diesel's emporium. Tesco's could make a killing on this with a free copy of Farmer's Weekly.
Well, I have to say... went to do my shopping last night at 1am. What a pleasure. Shelves fully stacked, fresh produce in abundance, straight through the checkout and got my bags packed too. Plenty of others in the store too (and not just stacking shelves). Might not be much call for it for the rest of the year, but at Christmas it was a godsend.
