Council cuts

One area not affect by the looming cuts is the Twinning Budget.

I understand that despite a failure of the Councillors to agree or approve the use of the funds, the default option prevails and budget for visits to South Carolina and Ireland remain untouched.

and they'll not be bored on the plane as they'll be able to play angry birds on their shiny new iPads!

I'll promise you this, I'll not vote for any councillor who takes one of these junkets.

In 50 years time if you look up the word "Twinning" in the Oxford English Dictionary it may well read along the lines of:-

"Twining - A scheme devised by councils in the late 20th century in order to facilitate jollies for their members to travel to far flung places, the idea was later dropped when the general public realised that it was complete and utter waste of money"

While schools close, and locals are made unemployed, a freebie trip to the USA, and the costs of hosting same here still happen.

Some days, the stories for journalists write themselves. This is one of those days.

C'mon you guys it is high time you appreciated just how much effort one has to put in on these twinning trips and the deprivations to be endured on these missions. My liver has been peremanently damaged following a fact finding visit to Ireland.
As my old boss used to saywhen asked to demonstrate what good accrued to the Island following suvh a trip he would say "the benefits of these trips simply cannot be quantified" So there.

Are you sure that the 'twinning' budget is not the Tea money.

Looking at the Tigh Ceilidhs for sale in the paper at 20K a piece and comparing to the teens of thousands the ipad deployment will have cost, just goes to show what priorities our councillors have. You get what you vote for.

Dalai Lama's facebook:

Feelings of anger and hatred arise from a mind that is troubled by dissatisfaction and discontent. So you can prepare to deal with such occasions by constantly working to build inner contentment and by cultivating kindness and compassion. This brings about a certain calmness of mind that can help prevent anger from arising in the first place.

Our Council would even give the Dalai Lama the heebeee geebees.
"I'm in the horns of the Dalai Lama" exclaimed cooncillor Mcscrew wheh he decided not to axe the twinning budget.
