"A big boy did it and ran away...."
"Quit as parliamentary aide" means that he was ordered to fall on his sword. But as yet, no suggestion of paying anything back.Conservative MP Andrew MacKay has quit as parliamentary aide to David Cameron over what the party said was an "unacceptable" expenses claim.
He claimed full second home allowance on his London address, while his wife, Tory MP Julie Kirkbride, claimed the full allowance for another home.
It is just a bit ffffffff unbelievable that he made such a complex error 'by mistake', having deliberately flipped his property to maximise his claims. This looks like a clear case for the Police under the Theft Act 1968, and I would expect an earlier visit from Inspector Knacker of the Yard.Prime Minister Gordon Brown is said to be "very concerned" about former minister Elliott Morley claiming £16,000 for a mortgage he had already paid off.
Mr Morley has said it was a "mistake" and has paid the money back [...]
The newspaper also alleges Mr Morley rented out a London flat designated as his main residence to another Labour MP, Ian Cawsey, a close friend and former special adviser.
Mr Cawsey, it is claimed, named the property as his second home, allowing him to claim back the £1,000 a month in rent he paid to Mr Morley.
In November 2007, the newspaper claims, Mr Morley "flipped" his designated second home from his Scunthorpe property to his London home and for four months the two men claimed expenses on the same property.
Getting even better

As a caller to Jeremy Vine has just pointed out, if they forget about claiming for £16K here and there and aren't able to tott up their own expenses, how can they be put in charge of running the country.
When I worked in the private sector we had to provide receipts for everything we claimed for to comply with VAT/tax rules. Also the firm's auditors would have been on us like a ton of bricks if receipts weren't provided. Expenses had to be authorised and checked twice before they went to accounts and then the accounts mob picked over them. Who is the plonker who has allowed payment for so much crap? Anyway Geoff Hoon seems to have escaped under the radar yet again. It appears he has funded his property business courtesy of Joe public. To add to it slime ball David Milliband is really sorry but will not be coughing up. I don't think I want to hear anymore about it now as I fear I might turn to lycanthropy for solace.
tsk, tsk angus laziness of language is the enemy of intellegence you could have at least included some b's with your ffffff's!
