Disconnected communities
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but that doesn't mean we should never look back at how and why decisions were taken in order to learn from the process.
The blog formerly known as "Angus Nicolson - an incredulous eye on the isles" this was the blog of an ordinary, boring, former Councillor in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Angus is taking a sabbatical to be with his young family
Debate strengthens democracy, except inside the SNP, as he has discovered.
If you want balance then get some scales. This is opinion - our opinion.
Any proven errors of fact made will be corrected in the original article, or by publishing a correction at the same degree of prominence, or both. As far as practical, others who have quoted the article will be requested to make a note in their article - this would include, for example pinging back with the correction those who had linked to the original piece.
If articles are ever removed, a statement of why that has been done will be left in situ.
The rest is entirely at my discretion.

Ha Ha Ha so connected communities was supposed to give us reliable broadband at a very competitive rate. So can someone tell us of anywhere in the UK where 1 meg broadband (when it works !) costs 24 quid a month ????
Also when you ring the helpline you get treated like a total Moron
HIE reviewing its own project? The word "whitewash" comes to mind. There is currently a review of this service taking place by people actually using it;

229 sums it up best "there is no shame in admitting you got something wrong, the shame is carrying on regardless" and by the sounds coming out of the Council that is exactly what they intend doing.
Einstein once said “You can't solve a problem with the thinking that created it”, which are words our elected representatives/Council/HIE should well heed instead of continuing with this farcical Emperor's New Clothes approach to this problem. You backed a donkey, admit it, then please upgrade our exchanges.
Needless to say if you or your family haven't signed this petition then please do.
It was WIE (HIE), WIHB & council that helped fund the whole project in the 1st place so no wonder they are sticking up for it. But speak to anyone else and its nothing but complaints about it.
HIE own & run concomm just under hebrides.net name instead of their own name.
They aim to have everyone on a 2Mb connection by 2012, concomm 2MB speed @ £79.99/month, you can forget about that idea. Let BT take over from here on in & same the goverment & tax payers money for a change rather than fund the HIE monopoly & quango's!!
