Why me, and not the Comhairle?
It started with the North Uist fixed link report, and now the LWP revision. Am I the leading edge of public service in the Western Isles?? ;-)
The blog formerly known as "Angus Nicolson - an incredulous eye on the isles" this was the blog of an ordinary, boring, former Councillor in the Western Isles of Scotland.
Angus is taking a sabbatical to be with his young family
Debate strengthens democracy, except inside the SNP, as he has discovered.
If you want balance then get some scales. This is opinion - our opinion.
Any proven errors of fact made will be corrected in the original article, or by publishing a correction at the same degree of prominence, or both. As far as practical, others who have quoted the article will be requested to make a note in their article - this would include, for example pinging back with the correction those who had linked to the original piece.
If articles are ever removed, a statement of why that has been done will be left in situ.
The rest is entirely at my discretion.

Don't get me started on this one...
1) Fixed-link report. Martyn Tulloch has been v good at emailing information and his presentation. However, the Comhairle still has *nothing* about this huge initiative on their website.
2) ...unless it is there, and buried, but you have to use the crappy search facility to find it. We gave up on this some time ago, and knocked up a Google site-limited search so we could find stuff easier on the council website.
3) The Comhairle make zero use of video conferencing or other internet communication technologies. Whereas other industries and sectors have, for many years. It's a contradiction - they want to promote the use of IT, broadband et al, but all of their business is oriented around all the councillors driving up to Stornoway for a timetable of meetings.
Arrrghhh!
Aren't there at least *some* sub-groups and committees where they can use video conferencing? It'll work out (a) cheaper [no travel expenses] (b) more reliable [no councillors missing because of travel problems] and (c) more convenient for councillors and everyone else.
4) There's broadband in council offices right down the archipelago now. They are trying to encourage take-up. How about leading by example and using it more effectively. Or just ... using it?
5) How many councillors:
- have a blog to inform their constituents of what they do
- regularly use email
- actually have dealt with constituents problems sent via email
- use the internet in an intelligent manner to find reliable information that can inform them in the decision-making process
- use the Comhairle website on a regular basis
