A new big windfarm for Lewis?

Yes, probably, maybe.

When I get a few moments later this week when I have much more time to pontificate whilst spending quality hours with the family, I'll give my take on how this proposal and the study on peat bogs should actually have knitted together for the benefit of the islands.

As I said at the time and was shot down by those who didn't listen.

I'll say it again, hopefully more clearly and with fewer vested interests putting the boot in, and I hope it provokes a proper debate, rather than just knee jerks.

I'm just gobsmacked that they haven't just turned their backs on the islands after the last fiasco. Surely there are more deserving and welcoming places than here?

There's gold in them thar hills, thank f***.

What happens when the Hebridean wind doesn't blow?

More years of infighting? Thanks AMEC and the Stornoway Trust, who were instrumental in starting the whole original fiasco in the first place.

Are there any officially published figures as to the efficiency and actual power production of the 3 turbines near Grimshader? Do these figures exist in the public domain? And why after all this time are one, two or occasionally all three of these turbines switched on when there is literally hardly a breath of wind? Ever get the feeling you're boing scammed?

11.44 You beleive that sh*t£ if you want. 50 years man & boy - it has blown, I only hope I am here to see the benifits.

Another complete waste of taxpayers' money going through a planning application for five years, only to find confirmation what we knew right from the outset: that the plans were in violation of everything within sight.

9:19 AM I believe that "sh*t£" because I've felt the varying Hebridean wind on my face. Many days where it's so strong turbines would have to be turned off to avoid damage. And many calm, still days where turbines would not move an inch.

11:44 pm - You say that as if wind farms are MEANT to work all the time. what happens in Norway? Do they have magical goblin dust that they scatter around to make sure the norse wind shall blow?! (i thoiught that only happened when we had snow!) and the really strange thing is they seem to make a profit!

When they aren't turning it's because our clapped-out system can't take the additional load which is why we need a sub-sea cable before any project, land or sea, large or small, private or community, Protestant or Catholic, can actually happen

1.46 Doesn't matter if you are for or against, the only reason they make a profit is because we have to pay more for wind generated electricity, or indeed for non-generated wind electricity.

Whatever happened to the Wave scheme at Balintruseil? Is that not a positive future?

I had heard that the Urras were holding the developer to ransom re land rent. Is this true?

@9:19 most of the turbines nowadays having gearing/brake set ups which enable them to run in all conditions.

6.22 no they don't, they've got a bit better thats all. They're still crap at everything other than generating cash :-)
