Confidential news for Councillors only.
Did you know that one of your very senior officers was in for this? And didn't get it.
Why did they apply and why didn't they get the job?
I know. Why don't you? Isn't that symptomatic of the current organisation?
Who is the keeper of the mushrooms?
(FYI: I know that the vacancy in Shetland has just been filled, but Orkney have been interviewing to fill their vacancy, which is where the interviewee went visiting...)

Who wants one of our cast offs? It's not as if we have anyone who has proven to be head-huntable. Hasn't the Comhairle ever noticed how glowing the references are for the senior staff that they recruit. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
Angus,
The link goes to an article about SHETLAND not Orkney. Orkney - Shetland, Shetland - Orkney, an easy enough mistake to make. NOT!
Is this an admission of guilt.
I want out, help, maker of my own demise.
Were stuck with him unless he was on a fixed term contract. Oh no they were not allowed to do that this time were they?
This is very old hat and quite out of date.
This happened months ago.
Confused. Is this current, angus ?
My information is that as the vacancy in Shetland was filled some time back but with a long lead period to allow a smooth filling of the concomitant vacancy in Orkney, and that interviews for this post were held quite recently.
At the risk of being accurate, the OIC Chief Executive is off to Shetland for 2 years and a bit. This was agreed by the OIC this Monday when at the same meeting the Councillors approved the up-stepping of the Director of Finance to cover. The Chief Executive was interviewed in Shetland and appointed therefrom subject to Orkney Council's agreeing to let him go.
Sorry - you mean our CEO is off ? (Your post was a little unclear. Well more than just a little unclear.)
Talking of unclarity, angus - I rather thought that you were to give us the lowdown on certain contractual matters. What happened to that ?
I understand that Albert Tait, the current Orkney Islands Council Finance Director got the 'acting up' job at Orkney this week whilst his Chief Executive goes in to sort out a bit of a mess in Shetland.
The more interesting question here is not whether 'our man in the White House' was interviewed and failed (although it's good scuttlebutt). It's about whether, in future, islands councils may be forced to give up having their own Chief Executives and may end up sharing.
I wonder if the Isle of Wight Council would like to share with us? They always seem to have terrible trouble hanging on to senior officers.
Don't you know chaps that the Boy Angus loves to tease us with these exclusives...just a bit of patience is required...wake me up when you get the answer. zzz!
Now imagine the scenario where our guy goes off on secondment and the Director of Finance steps up.
On second thoughts no, cease the imagination process immediatelly, the idea is just too horific to contemplate.
Angus, do you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder?
