NIMBY's have your say.....
Complete the following sentence
I really support renewable energy and think it is a good thing, but we don't need onshore wind power, when the real resource is at sea......
The site lies on the ley lines between my house and the grant giving departments in the Scottish Government. My plans for mass producing Gaelic surfing gnomes will bring jobs, prosperity, tourists, a Gaelic language plan for surfing gnomes and the value of my house will all be affected if the turbines are erected and I don't get my grant.
Further submissions welcome.....
* Those who genuinely and sincerely opposed the plans have my respect. They are and were, however, the minority.

I am against windpower because its a load of unreliable, inefficient bollocks. The whole thing is a sham. Hyped up and grant funded, it is all image and no substance. Great industry for consultants, construction and fabrication industries.
For a local example- the 3 on the Lochs moor- if they were working well and doing their thing, then surely all and sundry involved with the project would be harping on about how fantastic they are? How many homes they would power (are powering????) how much electricity they generate, etc etc.
Surely facts and figures relating to these turbines should be getting thrown in our faces on a daily basis in an effort to prove that windpower works and thus possibly gain local support for plastering the land and sea with them. There just aren't enough facts and figures about them readily available to joe bloggs. And when facts are thin on the ground, everyones bullshit detector goes off the scale.

Thats the press release for the lochs/arnish site from 2007, have they met the targets on electricity generation? Are they even putting power into the grid? Have they saved 8000tonnes of CO2? I just want to know! Why do we know so little about them? Google them for infor and you get waffle from 200&feckin7!
I love this Island, born and raised and intend to live nowhere else. Wind turbines all over are not the be all and end all to our economic woes because they aren't the answer to our forecasted energy shortfall.
Now what to do with that flippin atomic waste.......get Malcolm Tucker- he'll make it vanish!
I'm opposed to windfarms on or off Lewis, and always have been. I just cannot believe the double standards in certain parts of the island that want a windfarm off the Pentland Road, but not one off their own coastline.
Did you read about the day in March this year, when the electricity generated by Scottish windfarms was only sufficient to boil 1,000 kettles? And about the Isle of Eigg having to resort to diesel generators because of no wind and no rain for weeks?
What a load of bollocks! Is it really that slow a Sunday for you?
Get a grip you bunch of whingers. Have you lived so long in the thrall of government grants that you honestly don't know a thing that is good for the UK economy when you see it?
If you don't want onshore windfarms, then offshore wind is the answer. End of. And don't bleat about your view out to sea. There are people in this world who barely have enough to eat - how dare you whinge about something that will only bother you out of the corner of your eye?
Yawn, a vociferous minority who oppose all Nimby's, does that make you a 'No NIMBY's in my back yard' - a NNIMBYIMBY :)
Speaking of NIMBY, I'd like to see them placed somewhere near Brian Wilson's house. I'd like to see if he is committed to saving the planet or simply riding the gravy train and filling his pockets.
i also have an objection: the wind turbines may be so situated causing the tide to rise marginally and destroying the rare sea-pink that only grows in that area...
And now they want to stick a giant one in the Castle Grounds - twice the height of Lews Castle. That can join that great energy producer and grant launderer the waterwheel. Anyone else noticed how that doesnt work any more. Its all a bloody joke.
i also object that the lesser spotted periwinkle will suffer from the damage that the blades could do bringing the sea water up the beach.
not to mention the fresh water sea gull - dispite its name many in thelast fourteen pairs carry a gene that makes them averse to salt water and could be badly hit by the blades spreading the salt everywhere.
This website is a disgrace.

oh-oh Angus - seems that someone doesn't like the possition of this web site - you may have to move it!
8.00:
has it occurred to you, pinhead, that it is not MEANT to work EVERY MOMENT of EVERY DAY this is the great mistake most people make with most forms of natural electricity generation. SOMETIME or other the wind won't blow or the rain won't fall. HOLD IT NEWS IN FROM TESCO - THEY'RE NOT GOING TO STOCK ANY CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS THIS YEAR - THERE HAS BEEN NO DEMAND THE LAST FEW MONTHS!
12:46PM How is it a 'disgrace'? Add some substance - if you can - to your statement.
Re Anonymous Coward@12:37,
Has it occured to you that that is exactly why it isn't a reliable source of energy - because we need electricity 24/7 regardless of whether the wind is blowing or the tide coming in.
The simple fact is that 'renewable' energy generation isn't reliable enough for baseline load.
The quicker we get some new nuclear powerplants approved the better - they will be able to provide a reliable baseline which can then be supplemented by the renewable energy as and when it generates
I see they are now bitching on Heb News. Why would you let any of this lot be involved in anything like owning a power station, because that is what it is.
I wouldnt let any of them look after my dog when I am on holiday
I have to agree that unlike christmas which I only expect for one day a year, and to last for 24 hours (give or take), I do prefer the hospital ICU to be available 24/7, along with the other medical services, similarly I quite like my TV, fridge, PC, shall I go on?
However 12.37 should you wish to go back and live in black house and forgo all mod cons, including the miracle of modern medicine and a varied diet, please let us know and we can include you in our carbon offsetting efforts!
