Eishken wind farm

I am really pleased to see that this has been given approval by Jim Mather, although his bathetic comment almost makes me want to cry or throw something through the computer screen:
"The study the Scottish Government published last January showed that there could be further renewable energy development in the Western Isles. This could just be the start."
Preceded only by the incredible:
"Since the first proposals for a wind farm on Lewis were put forward, I have maintained that the Western Isles must be able to play its part in harnessing and benefitting (sic) from our vast green energy potential. Today, we are making that reality."
FFS, if you are going to tell a lie, make it a big f'ing whopper!

Now the inter-connector and cabling need to be resolved, and as per Beauly-Denny undergrounding doesn't seem to be a matter for Government, which is - in my view - unacceptable.

Those who supported the application will be wearily glad; those who opposed will be livid, not just for the application itself, but for the implications for other applications.

And what does the press release from our MP and MSP say, given they will have been told about this a few days in advance?

---

I've quickly read through the Consent letter and I'm pleased to see that most (all?) of the concerns were fully addressed by the conditions that the Comhairle recommended (paras 42 onwards), which I think just shows that the hard work the Officers and the Committee put into the applications was an excellent piece of work, and one I remain very proud of having been invovled in.

However, para 54 refuses consent for 6 turbines, which seems completely contrary to the Beauly-Denny stance of "I don't have the power to...." and concurs exactly with what I blogged yesterday about Ministerial powers.

(Back to work, I'll read the rest later)

MSP gone to ground?

Same MSP who promised to save the enviroment of Lewis from the Turbines?

Same MSP who sold his sole to MWT on a promise?

Same MWT who said vote for our saviour?

AA your just a shallow opportunist

Bye Bye 15 months to go

If I remeber rightly the removal of the 6 was a recommendation from CnES on the last application which you (Angus) were not involved in.
There will be no press release from the fence sitters or dare they?

Dumb and Dumber having been issing plenty of press releases this week about the everything under the sun, but today.......

The pathetic, pathetic, waste of space that they both are.

They both pledged in my hearing that the SNP would never allow LWP and BMP, and they only got my vote on that basis. Now they are supporting pylons running the length of Scotland and the BMP scheme which means pylons all over Lewis and between Ullapool and Beauly.

I don't know who I will vote for next time, but it certainly won't be the SNP.

I too voted SNP in on that card and not the candidate. What a buch of tossers and we are likely to be getting more as Mather gave SY Trust the nod that 50 were plenty.

What do you expect from a party who are having a party , drunk with succsess !

1.42

I suppose that would depend on the skills the unemployed weavers , crofters , fish farm workers etc have. Time to start thinking about that.

they might do what they did at Glendoe Hydro and build a camp for the Eastern European Workforce so everything is nice and sown up !

There is no party worth voting for ! people are dying in far away places for MPs MSPs who are just riding roughshode over the people ! we are all mugs !

Can't say I'm over the moon. If anyone wants a reason to be fed up with politicians of any persuasion (as if we need any more), this is one of them. Riding roughshod over public opinion with false promises. Disgusting.

Hello SNP Office, have Dumb and Dumber been abducted by aliens?

Have they not got an opinion on one of the most important decisions to affect the islands in many years?

When did they get told about the decision?

How many meetings have they had with the Minister to discuss the issue, as opposed to issuing press releases claiming that they were doing something?

No votes for them in this household after today.

this whole lark has been a done deal all along , cosy meetings etc , it is all for our own good you know ! who are we to question the great and the good ! we should be greatful for any crumbs they may discard our way ....

MSP Welcomes..........
MP Welcomes...............
Sod All today - no daily press release both seem to have gone to ground.

The fact is these two have conned us, shafted us and hung us out to dry.

MP Big Brother Alex's lacky in Westminster, does nothing, claims a lot and keeps inappropriate company. Vote for me No Wind farms.

MSP for ......well any seat will do as long as I am later to be Minister for Gaelic. Keeps undefined company. Vote for me No Wind Farms.

But what have they done even when condecendingly appearing in Pairc - sat on a big fence along with our Ward Councillor who likes the sound of his own voice when it comes to Ferries, Sports halls and Centres for abandoned Islands but has done like the other two sweet FA for Pairc.

The 3 wise monkeys one thing in common PARTY FIRST, tow the line.
God forbid this National Socialist Party ever gets a real mandate to rule.

Promises - lies, damned blatant lies. Next gthye destruction of Gravir for their interconnector and the industrialisation of Pairc proper.

I would rather vote BNP or for the Christian Party idiot than these three.

IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS ALL YOU GUYS ARE IN FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT OR DON'T WANT TO WORK.
THE NEWS THAT THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES SHOULD BE WELCOMED.
UNLESS OF COURSE YOU KNOW BETTER!!!!

I once met a prominent politician who told me that what people resent most are not the representatives who make right or wrong decisions. We all make mistakes and understand why others might come to conclusions we do not agree with.

What we dislike most in those whom we elect are those who do not give reasons for having reached a view and also lack the courage to express their opinions.

Once again the present MP and MSP are falling into this category, staying silent when they should have stated their opinion immediately this news was released. This is the same moral cowardice we have seen in them before, most notably in the Sunday Ferry affair.

This is not acceptable to anyone - those who welcome this development and those who do not.

It is long past time they stopped sticking out fingers to check the prevailing wind and had the courage instead to speak.

9.06pm WHAT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES?

One minute there are 20 jobs then 70 and now 150. It seems the less turbines the more jobs. Whether or not there is a correlation between jobs and turbines the jobs are lined up for itinerant workers who can install windfarms with their eyes shut, and then go home. I guess there will be jobs for people to patch up the crappy roads afer they have been wrecked by heavy plant.

Our entire household voted SNP last time, and the SNP have betrayed us.

I opposed the wind farms, but I'll be voting Labour for a candidate who supports windfarms.

My parents voted SNP, but they'll are outraged that the SNP brought in Sunday ferries, so they'll be voting Labour for a candidate who supports Sunday ferries.

The difference is that the Labour candidate is prepared to have an opinion, rather than hide himself away.

We may not agree with what he says, but at least he is honest, unlike the other two incompetent spineless party apparatchiks.

As someone who was all for the wind farm and voted for Alasdair Morrison. But I hope you idiots who listened to the liars who told you that the wind farms would not happen are in tears now. You got rid of an MSP who worked tirelessly for the Islands and voted for a wee lying prat from the Borders. All you guys are now reaping what you sow..

one things for sure unless the BNP actually are a threat next time they will not be winning this seat for a Long LONG time to come! LS

Its amazing how the Beach Boy released a press release today welcoming Ian Scarr Hall's backing for independence. Yet not a word from him or the Barra Bhouy regarding the windfarm.

Re - 10.36

Another example of a certain someone not knowing his job.

http://www.hebridesnews.co.uk/not_cold_western_isles_15110.html

Much better to spend a couple of hundred quid of the taxpayers' money rather than waste his precious time on some thought.

10:36

I wonder if Mr Scarr-Hall who has a rather Walter Scott view of Highland life has found out yet in his mountain retreat in Switzerland that Beach Bouy has manipulated his views on a day the wind farm was announced?

I am fully aware Scarr-Hall is a paid up pal of the SNP but also aware he loathes on shore wind farms.

What a nasty bunch of back stabers this zenopobic, 19th Century, controlled Party this SNP is.

Beach Boy and Barra Boy still nothing to say about your lies to your voters?

Macmillan, get to the back of the class! Now!

From the consent letter:

"61. The Ministers’ decision is final, subject to the right of any aggrieved person to apply to the Court of Session for a judicial review."

Anyone feeling aggrieved?

Anonymous said...

4:52-LS here again - "they" refers to the SNP and really what i meant to say was that I will not be voting SNP. sorry, must've been tired that day!!!

Dr Evadne said...

I have read through the consents letter and it is the biggest pile of waffle/garbage that you are ever likely to see as an excuse to circum-navigate the planning process and kill off unsuspecting wildlife. I can't wait to see who gets appointed as the 'Ecological Clerk of Works'. More intelligent lines of text can be viewed in Katie Price's latest novel, Tits(..or something).

Any sign of Beach or Barra Bouy/Bhouy?
