Harris Tweed Hebrides
That's not to demean in any way what has been achieved in growing from nothing to 95% of the industry in a matter of a couple of years; albeit assisted by the suicidal business polices of Mr Haggas.
So amongst all this good news, why are the accounts to December 2010 now nearly three months overdue at Companies House, and why is the Annual Return overdue?
And why was a new company called Harris Tweed Hebrides Shawbost Ltd formed in November 2011?
The sole director is Malcolm Holmes (no, not the drummer in OMD!) of Tods Murray, solicitors, whose work skills includes expertise in corporate reorganisation. With the one share held by nominees, I suspect a major restructuring is in prospect.
The question is: why? With 5 mortgages, the suspicion is clear.
Interested observers will be intrigued by the eclectic list of members, who presumably have provided significant investments in the company. Uist readers will recognise the Storas unofficial executive board.

How many local companies are owed money?
Five loans or whatever out, but where is that money got from in the first place?
Have all the weavers been paid aswell?
I think the reason that the accounts are overdue is due to a decision, at corporate level, to keep nosey parkers like yourself on the edge of their seats allowing you ample time to pen yet another post with a destinctly negative tone about a fantastically successful company that has bought nothing but good PR to both the industry and the islands. Oh and lots of employment on West side of Lewis.
To clarify - it is a criminal offence not to submit accounts - the £5000 fine and criminal offence relates to both accounts and annual return. Check out this link to companies house and look at page 5 of the guide:
http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/about/pdf/gba1.pdf
4. What happens if I do not submit accounts or annual returns to Companies House?
As a director of a company Companies House can prosecute for not submitting these documents on time. This is a criminal offence and upon conviction the court can fine a director up to £5,000 for each offence. There is a separate, civil penalty imposed on the company for the late filing of accounts.
May 2009- Version 18 As modified by the Companies Act 2006 Page 6 of 17
If Companies House believes that the company is no longer carrying on business or in operation, we can, after writing to the company to check whether that is true, strike it off the register and dissolve it. If this happens all the assets of the company, including its bank account and property, generally become the property of the Crown. Once a company is dissolved you can only restore it to the register by means of a court order. For further details see our guidance, 'Strike-off, Dissolution and Restoration' or 'Strike-off, Dissolution and Restoration (Scotland)'.
6. What if I deliver the accounts late?
If a company files its accounts with Companies House late, the company will automatically incur a 'late filing penalty'. The amount depends upon how late the accounts arrive and whether the company is private or public. These penalties are in addition to any fine imposed by a court - as explained in question 4 of this chapter.
Further information about late filing penalties is available in our guidance on “Late Filing Penalties” and ‘Accounts’ available on the Companies House website.
7. Are there any other consequences of filing accounts late or not at all?
Yes. This could affect any future business opportunities as potential customers can search our website which gives free information about which accounts are outstanding. Not filing or filing late could possibly have a consequence on the company’s credit rating.
8. How can I avoid prosecution and late filing penalties?
Make sure your company complies on time with all its filing obligations, not only in connection with its accounts and annual returns, but in connection with all other documents required under the Act.
9. Isn't my accountant supposed to do all this?
Your accountant's responsibilities depend on the agreement you have with them. However, the responsibility to deliver accounts and other statutory documents rests entirely with the directors.
You should make sure that your accountants have all the necessary information to prepare your accounts and if necessary to audit them on time. If necessary, chase your accountants. Don't just assume they are getting on with the job. Companies House prosecute the directors not the accountants.
10. Why does Companies House need this information?
In exchange for the benefits of trading with limited liability, companies must deliver certain information about themselves to Companies House. This information is made available for

inspection by the public so that they can make informed decisions about companies that they may wish to invest in or do business with.
Us weevers are just prawns in the big games of Little Lenin and just like Lenin too when puting people behind the doors.
No messing. Play his game or you are out. The total play is not stacking up.
Anyway why is that guy from Uist playing the bigshot in Shawbost and Stornaway as a boss. He dont look like a stick stamper to me.
A lot of big shots is right.
Lawyers and politicos all of them.
Using the weavers to get votes. Simple as that. He thinks that we are that stupid that we dont see the plays as theyare made. For the last two elections it is all about the votes in the country areas.
All the slush funds from the enterprise is dryed up so is the next thing we get told is that it all somebodys fault so who is now going to get the blame.
Oh god, some bitter & twisted people posting here.
Ive just had a look at the list of directars and all of them look like they dont know a pattern of one end of a cloth from the other end and they dont look like they could ever lift a cloth. How much money has been spent on the ferrys for them to get them back and forward or is all the business done in the directars box at celtic.
How old is your loom if you have to stamp the sticks? Fiddle paper and get yourself a full cost&cashback grant from HIE.
Stop stamping and be a peddler.
Agree with 1.36. What a sad bunch of twisted minds with more chips on shoulders than could be measured! Grumpies from Storas Uibhist opponents, Celtic Football Club haters, all brought together to try to rubbish a fantastic achievement of getting Harris Tweed back on the international stage. Who exactly, can someone tell me, is trying to secure votes from the electorate, and for what? When you're all buried with your prejudices, the contribution that Harris Tweed Hebrides made to this island will still be recognised. I loathe this small mindedness.
I just love the witty apercus, and its just like the crack down the Rangers on a Saturday evening. Despite being in a jungle in the Far East I still love the memory of being in The Jungle in the East End. Busting with atmosphere provided someone behind wasnt busting with more than atmosphere. Alway watch the warm ankle sensation.
Seeing a line of people in orange robes brings to mind the thought that not all orange men wear bowler hats.
Keep up the good work. It reminds me of the rain. ;)
Aug. 27th 2011 saw the University of the Highlands and Islands finally become the , err ,University of the Highlands and Islands.
After several years of being a prospective University it at last produced genuine Graduates. One of the first was a Miss J Campbell. Who just happens to be the daughter of Mr Angus Campbell, the glorious Leader of C.n.E.S(Western Isles Council) and possibly the vainest man in the Outer Hebrides.During Press and Radio interviews Miss Campbell revealed she is going to work for Harris Tweed Hebrides. A company that benefits from a very cosy relationship with C.n.E.S (Prop. Angus Campbell). Through the Harris Tweed Investment Fund , Harris Tweed Hebrides (H.T.H) has received a £138k soft loan from the Council and £92k of E.U money.
Harris Tweed Hebrides paid back £148k to the council ,with much press attention, but no mention of the £82k of public money the company keeps.
The Harris Tweed Investment Fund(H.I.T.F) was presented as a way of keeping Harris Tweed Weavers in work, however the Councils own review of the H.I.T.F shows it produced £106k of income for 72 Weavers. Assuming the the work was fairly shared out ( it was not) then each Weaver will have earned £1472 in the calendar year, compared to the £82k Harris Tweed Hebrides gets to keep.As Miss Campbell starts work in their accounting dept. perhaps she could tell her dad where the money went.
for 1.36 and 7.19, I have good reason to be bitter and twisted.
Ancatdubh...you are clearly a cnut one of those how as jeremy clarkson would say should be shot. Hope i bumpninto you soon.

The comments are ridiculous at best.
Well i am disgusted that sombody can be so pathetic as to number one mention personal names but say that a young girl who must have worked hard to get a degree only got it because of her father.. Pathetic! Maybe she deserved it and good on her for getting a job with a booming local business which is keepinG money in the pockets of locals!Grow up!!

This blog has been taken completely of the acual subject!! You shouldnt be making theese personal jibes at people .. Its pathetic. You say miss campbell graduated did it ever occur to you that maybe she got the job because she was qualified for it!! Definetly bitter and twisted person! Grow up!!
On behalf of the weavers the ones i know anyway are always paid weekly with no problems. And are very gratefull to the company.
On behalf of the weavers i know they are paid every week and are very grateful to the company for helping tjem pay the bills. Jobs are few and far between well done to harris tweed hebrides on giving so many locals a paycheck!
Oh! the underbelly of the wholesome "Harris Tweed Hebrides". I only hope the Harris tweed weavers have an angel on each shoulder looking out for them, certainly going to need it with all the sharks around. I know someone who tried to enter a certain weaving training course which was supposed to be "saving" the industry and encouragin weaver in Harris - what a joke that was! Not a single Hearadh got a place on the course due to local politics and poor advertising, it went to Leosachs (nothing against Lewis, its just a shame for Harris and the Hearadhs).
The last few comments are the best thing on this pathetic excuse for a blog.
At least some people can see through the politcal
Bullshirt that fuels this page.
The last five comments - 9:54 to 10:20 - were all of these written by the same person? Just wondered, as they have similar basic grammatical and spelling mistakes, as well as appearing to repeat themselves.
The five comments are virtually unreadable; despite totally disagreeing with the comments, I feel some sympathy regarding the limited level of education of the person who wrote them. Please; get someone to proofread your content before making it 'live'. In addition, there are plenty of adult education 'catch up' classes, for either attendance-based or online education.
However, regarding 9:14 - no sympathy there. The comments are ridiculous at best? No. You really mean "I don't like these comments, but am too much of a coward to engage in debate." Bye, then.
True Blue in a dense verdant jungle eating a brekkers of fruit off the trees. Which reminds me of a joke for my hoopy pals and it follows on from my previous. The Jungle was full of dense things in green ;p
Seeing monkeys in the trees makes me wonder at the conundrum of if man desended from the trees then why is the jungle full of monkeys?
As an insider A you'll know full well that the whole bubble is becoming rather wobbly though I can suggest a great potential use for clodh beag. Bespoke midgie torture suits by CIA for their detainees. An afternoon in the sun feeling as though they're being eaten by a million hungry cullagan and even the most ardent detainees will sing like budgies, sign anything and swap BinLaddie for BeaBamma, just to get out of their herringbone suits. Quality but not as we know it quality.
Judging by the reactions earlier you've opened a big nest of midges which is driving everyone slightly mad, or they've recently come down from the trees and yet learned to use toilet paper and are still a little foul mouthed as a consequence.
Perhaps you could get Brian to do a bit of market analysis for the Mill next time he's in Cuba and beam a few cloths over. He could get the CIA to do a test on the US detainees in Gitmo and at the same time get his pal Fidel get his secret police to test the suits out on the Cuban detainees. (Its pots and kettles there I'm afraid) The test is to see which group is the first to play ball and swap sides. All in the interests of market research. Of course. Yeah yeah.
All good fun, BTW pehaps Donald's burnett is the midgie nest that you've opened up or is that where Wee B was hiding. :))
Great fun. Keep it up.
The level and quality of debate really needs to be improved.
The comment is factually correct, if any one bothers to look they will find more info freely available.
If the comment contained more information that you can handle, then sod off.If you are prepared to enter into a well informed meaningful debate, then I am happy to engage.

is an attack on one of your many enemies by means of an attack on his daughter not a bit low, even by the standards of this nasty blog?
Well informed and meaningful debate with someone who is, self admittedly, bitter and twisted is both impossible and pointless.
Reading between the lines on this and other posts by The writer with regards to HTH, it is obvious that he seems slightly put out by the success of the company. One can assume the reasons behind that. At I shall leave it.
Lokks like Angus is responsible for world plague, the slaughter of the first born in Shawbost, and the breach of company law by the directors of HTH.
Alternatively, the concerted campaign to try and play the man not the ball clearly indicates a bulls-eye.
So which of the self-important twats on the Board is going to get ousted in the EX-factor?
Brian Wislon's comments are just so easily identified....
The guy from Uist is the mishonaries grandson from along the road. He allways says heis from Ness. Listen to where he works and gets his other money. I am not a Storas hater and have nothing for or against them but I take it that was what they said about BrianWilson writing in. Bad news if he starts putting the knife in but I take it that they are a bunch of prawns aswell.
"...reading between the lines..."
prove me wrong or sod off.
There are wheels within wheels. Who knows if this is all in-talk, or just people of low intelligence blathering...
12.04 you mean you can't tell!
This one is rolling on to the extent I'm checking it in the evening in addition to my morning scan.
This is definitely a scenario of monkeys and the organgrinder. Lots of monkeys dancing or atleast peddling or even 'stamping sticks' but only one organ grinder with his booted and suited entourage to encourage the monkeys.
The monkeys are concentrating on their dancing but they must be prepared for the warm ankle sensation. I'm afraid its clean up time after that warm ankle feeling.
The organ in this case is analogous to HIE with its sweet money music. Spin the the handle and it spits the cash.
Imagine the organgrinder controling the monkeys and spinning the handle.
The cruncher is to anticipate what he will do when the organ stops printing the music.
Who will he blame, other than the monkeys and you Angus?
What will we hear from the booted and suited entourage?
Where will the monkeys go then?
I shall check again in the morning incase the bubble has popped.
11:04
What gibberish you spout.
Is ancatdubh Gaelic for bell end without a brain?
The Harris Tweed Distribution center, was set up by weavers for weavers.Tweeds were issued to weavers according to the instructions of the Distribution Center, which kept records of each tweed issued (piece no.),date delivered to weaver and date the finished tweed was returned to the mill. The Distribution Center had it's flaws , but it did ensure a good chance that weavers would get a fair share of tweeds.A weaver could see his or her own tweed issue records and any other weavers record. As I have said, the Center had it's faults, but it was the best friend the weavers ever had.
When derrick murray took control of the harris tweed industry and ian angus mackenzie was the chief executive of the harris tweed authority, the Harris Tweed Distribution Center was destroyed.
Weavers lost their only friend .
The loss of the data base of weavers, their names and address's ,their weaving records and the loss of the ability to link a tweed to the weaver that wove it, has had serious repercussions.
The Harris Tweed Authority lost it's creditability,it has to rely on the mill to provide information,
a question mark hangs over the validity of the orb mark being applied to tweeds which have no traceability. The weavers are left kissing arse in the hope they will get a tweed and anyone can claim to be a weaver.
When brian wilson was a gov minister he asked for a report on the harris tweed industry, the report showed that £10 million of public money had been wasted.
ian angus mackenzie and brian wilson now use harris tweed hebrides to access yet more public money.

Well from what is read in other news sources it seems that the author of this post knows little about accounting, company structures, tax regulations or common business sense.
