Football

Is it just me, or is there really not enough coverage of the World Cup on TV?

There are some movie channels, and the kids channels not dedicated to 24 hour coverage of the universe shattering events in South Africa.

FFS, TV executives - get a grip. I want to be able to watch the North Korea coverage of all the games, whilst listening to the DBS radio broadcasting Gaelic play-by play being spoked by a drunk man in a shed in Tolstachaolais, who is actually watching a badly sub-titled internet feed of a stolen Spanish TV feed. Why am I not being catered for?

Try this. Everytime you see or hear mention of football on the TV, repeat "1966" till it stops.

You won't go mad.

Promise.

Your comment is equally racist.

What is holding you back?

Come on 10.36am, you should be able to take it on the chin by now. Anyway Scotland haven't been invited to this world cup, the last one, and err..the one before that.

One question: Adrian Chiles...why?

Come on 10.36am, you should be able to take it on the chin by now.

That's what they said to the blacks in South Africa wasn't it?

10:51am
come on then, please tell me what is racist about 10:36 comment? They are only saying exactly what many English people living up here want to say but are too scared to.

2:54PM, In my little corner of the Hebrides, apart from some friendly banter around the wide screen TV in the Pub, I see no evidence of racial disharmony or scared Englishmen.

Being quote (10:36) "alone with your booze problems and no money" unquote, crosses all ethnic and geographic boundaries and to think otherwise is, in my book, racist.

You may have a different opinion and it would be racist of me to suggest thast you change it. In any case under the guise of anonimity we may even be from the same race.

PS In mixed company it was suggested that Utterly Butterly might like to sponsor Britains continuig involvement in the South African shenanigans, the concept achieved a general consensus of agreement.

I don't trhink the comment is racist. I think it is just due to there being (yet another) party to which Scotland were not invited.
12:12 you are right, The goalie was absolute sh1te. You should see what the English press are saying about him today.
TBH I'm not bothered if England win this WC as we've already won one this year. Yes you're right, Scotland were not invited to that party either.
Vindaloo! Vindaloo!

"Alone with your booze problems"

Comments like this are not racist or libellous if they are deemed to be true. Look around you and tell me that these islands aren't full of red faced, drunken bums.... but isn't it great that England only drew against the USA yesterday. Cheers to all. Let's have another can of cheap Tesco lager....

"Alone with your booze problems"

Look around you Scotland, particularly the Western Isles. This country has very little to be proud of and the few that don't fit the typical Scottish mould, do the sensible thing and move away.

The only ones that seem to want to stay up here are the red faced, drunken bums who can cream money and housing off the government safe in the knowledge that they will never be expected to work again.

So to be racist because England actually achieved something and got to the world cup is really quite sad....

Enjoy your cheap Tesco lager, that's the highlight of your weekend.

Well, I'm not from round here either, but I've heard worse things said by locals about other locals than I've ever heard said about the English.

And let's face it, a fool is a fool whether he's from Bragar or Bromsgrove.

*sigh* from 42 years of experience - the Scots and the English are pretty much the same.

1. Most - the majority - are not anti- the other.

2. A minority are anti- the other.

3. A proportion of those minorities are vocal about it, especially after a few drinkies, or when there's a footie match on, or when there's a bloke running the country who comes from the other country.

4. As it needs repeating: most - the majority - are not anti- the other. Most people, Scottish and English, are sensible, level-headed people.

Sorry if that disappoints the minority on either side still fighting ancient wars, but most other people just want to get on with their lives and get on with other people, no matter what their nationality.

Yrs, anon (English with Scottish ancestry, if you want to extrapolate some probably incorrect conclusions from it).

kudos for spelling tolsta..... right. 10:51 I agree with you i am at this very moment surrounded by those who will nag me for being a racist against the English for supportting ABE.

The trouble is they keep on repeating that all Scots are like this and they never heard anyone in England repeating this... i would point out that probably none of the white folks in south africa noticed much racism, either but that would just lead to out of context questions
