Ministerial Visit
No-one seems to know much about why Des Browne, Secretary of State for Scotland, has suddenly decided to visit a small part of the Western Isles. Or why knowledge of his schedule is restricted to him flying in at 10am and out at 6pm.
Of course, Des has another job as Secretary of State for Defence.
Does this explain the visit?
The Nirex list of potential nuclear dumping sites is still unchanged and includes two islands in the vicinity, so sightings of migratory military types, or mysterious boat or helicopter trips will be very gratefully received.
Even better, confirmation of the removal of the two islands from the Nirex dumping list will be very gratefully received and given great publicity.

This isn't connected with the rumour that Ikea are looking for a site for one of the smaller versions of their stores in the Western Isles, is it? Would have thought Stornoway, with a much larger population, is more feasible.
NuLabour are rapidly being jettisoned by Scotland, so they think they might as well try and dump some waste on us afore they go. Goodbyeeee!
Don't be stupid. If they wwere looking for dumping sites do you seriously reckon they would send the Secretary of State for Defense himself? Get real!
Is'nt it the UK Government policy on nuclear waste disposal to encourage a local authority to accept location within its area by offering it "sweeteners"? - whatever they might be!?
After the fuss with windfarms it would be interesting to see the Comhairle's position oh and of course the opinions of they people they represent should they be serenaded by the UK government.
A dicky bird told me that Des Browne is going to ask Angus MacNeil to help with his next election campaign as he did such a good job with David Davies.
9.23am If Ikea do open a branch in the Outer Hebrides, I wonder if they will use local names in their furniture range?
Stornoway grey 3 piece suite, Benbecula brown wc with bidet.
