The next Olympics.....

I know, hold me back from the excitement. But according to the official organising committee the handover of the torch from Beijing to London is capturing the imagination of the entire country....

Towns, cities and communities are planning their own celebrations with a series of events and initiatives happening across all nations and regions.

This includes a network of big screens in every nation and region of the UK showing live coverage of the Closing Ceremony and the concert in London.

Find your local screen on the list below:

Simple:

Taxi to the airport.
Plane to Glasgow.
Wait several hours for a connection.
Plane to Belfast.
Taxi to the screen.
Do in reverse to return home.

What's the problem?

Is it stupid to assume that given there is 4 years still to go they may still have some details and venues to finalise?

And what of the Welsh?

Anon 5:59. Frankly, yes you are stupid (and I mean that in a constructive, caring-sharing way).

The venues are for the handover of the torch at the end of the Beijing Olympic i.e later this month.

[BTW, I don't know why it posted thrice; Blogger is playing silly buggers with my ability to approve posts]

They would be more honest if the final category was simply re-labelled "Outer England"...

I may be stupid, but your post in no way said that this was happening next month.

I'm sure Angus does not need anyone to jump to his defence as I'm quite sure he more than capable of defending himself.

But anon of 5:59 PM 9:48 PM he is crediting his readers/correspondents with some knowledge of events on which he/they comment. So does he really have to spell it out that the closing ceremony is on a given date in a couple of weeks time? The whole world (apart from those trying to kill each other) know that the olympics are taking place at the conclusion of which there will be a closing ceremony. I can only assume that you are to young to have been around long enough to have witnessed the last Olympics!!

Of much more urgent attention is the farcical situation with the football referees on this Island. They seem to be a very sickly lot going down en masse with unspecified life threatening illnesses whenever Lochs FC appear on the fixture list. Time for a person of common sense to arbitrate?

And what do you think Rev. Coghill will decide?

"It's the Devil's game!"
Instead of wasting time on a Saturday or an evening, you should be out working instead of enjoying yourself. It's moral turpitude like this which is responsible for the decline of the christian world as we knew (or like to think of) it.

And for those readers who shouldn't be allowed out by themselves, that was said TIC.

Bugger! They've gone & spoilt it. There's now a screen in Scotland (Glasgow).
Huh! That's spoilt all the fun.
Except............Herne Bay (pop app 25,000) is getting one why can't we?
Angus can you speak to some ex colleagues and see if we can have one in South Beach car park. I'm sure it'll be popular! {:-)

As this blog has the Olympics in it's title it's a good as any place to mention the appalling display by our highly paid Professional sports men (the Tennis Players) who despite being able to spend there whole lives dedicated to their sport can't beat a no hoper from Taipie because he was 'tired' after winning a competition a week or so ago. Compare this with the heroic efforts of the Canoeist David Florence who in a physically demanding sport gets a silver.

If Andy Murray can't raise his game whilst representing his country he will never have the right attitude to win anything. Still I suppose he no longer is a proper Scot as he seems to spend most of his time in America to the extent that he even is getting a American accent.

Forget the professional elite lets have more praise for our lesser known sportsmen they are a credit to the Scottish Nation.

Anon 3:37pm,

With their exits today, I assume you consider Roger Federer and the Williams sisters to be as inept as Andy Murray. Not only is that spectacularly ignorant, its also very disrespectful to their opponents.

Murray lost 4 1/2 kilos in his time in Beijing - the humid conditions hardly suiting a peely wally Scotsman.

The conditions in Aberdeen were much better when he represented Scotland and won the Aberdeen Cup against England in 2005 and 2006. He's also represented GB in the Davis Cup since 2005 - the youngest player ever to play for GB.

Why not celebrate a Scottish success story, a guy who lived through the Dumblane massacre and has gone on to become a top 10 tennis player?

I didn't say he was inept, I just don't think his attitude was right. He had no fire in him no passion. Did you watch the match? I did, his demeanour showed his opponent that he was beaten long before the final shots were played. No wonder his oppponent won he could see that Murray's heart wasn't in it.

Murray's success story is something to be proud of but given the many trainers, sports Psychologists etc that surround the top players these days we(the spectator)have every right to expect better, particularly when they are respresenting our country.

The playing condiditions were/are the same for everyone. The Aberdeen what? played for only 2 years and against an aging Canadian and a couple of who?? hardly something to set the tennis world alight. As to surviving Dunblane you would have thought that would have given an edge of steel not a fragile one. Davis Cup GB currently rank 21(down from 20) in the world, hardly anything to get excited about is it.

As to losing all that weight where was his advisors they must have known about this possibility, ah, but there again Murray knows best doesn’t he, his temperment, and I know best attitide is legendary, yes he had calmed down, but he is a long way off being a great tennis player. Good but could do a lot better.

come, come now children, if you'd seen half as much coverage of games as i have, you must know by now that if a Scot loses he's a Scot and if he wins he's British (i still swear i heard him being called English once, before being corrected by a collegue.)Similarly if a English person wins, he is English and if he loses he's British
