CIS cup draw

Even non-sports fans like me will be astonished at the news that the semi-final draw was mismanaged.

For the uninitiated, that's four teams to play to two sets of two. The process is that someone draws a ball out of a bag, matches that number against a team name written on a table. You know the sort of thing 1=Aberdeen etc.

The kind of thing you do with kids.

It proved to be beyond the ability of the person making the draw live on television, who was the Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer, Alex Fergusson, overseen by the First Minister Alex Salmond.

And then it took them four hours to sort it out.

Could to see the political decision making process in safe hands.

For the uninitiated, which apparently includes you Angus, the procedure at such events is: In charge is Guy 1 from the outfit whose cup it is - in this case the Scottish Football Leage. Guy 2 [Alex Salmond] a personality to give some sort of credence to the event. Guy 3 [Anon] from the competition sponsers and Guy 4 another personality who should wear his glasses if he needs such to read a short script. Each team in the competion is allocated a number which is known only to Guys 1 and 4. Guy 1 pulls from a bag a numbered ball announces the number shows it to the assembled gathering and places it on the table. Guy 4 announces the team this ball refers to. Guy 3 pulls another ball and places it alongside the previous one. Guy 4 announces the relevant team. So on and so forth untill all the balls have been drawn. Guy 1 then announces the complete draw and all go home to fill in their expenses sheets. Why Guy 1 did not notice that Guy 4 had just taken a stab in the dark as he couldn't read the script, after all he only had four numbers to memorize. Alex Salmond is completely blameless

"Alex Salmond is completely blameless" - isn't that the new motto of the Scottish Government?

Brot, I am pleased to confirm my ignorance of footballing matters, but shouldn't everyone one know which teams had been allocated which numbers before the draw was made, in the interests of openness?

no- and neither they, nor the media, nor anyone else should ever be told in the interests of secrecy!
