The Labour candidate

I'll need a new photo for my election addressCongratulations - or perhaps commiserations - to Cllr Donald J MacSween who has been the lucky winner in the contest to be the next lemming and has emerged as the candidate for the next General Election.

This was exclusively forecast on this very blog, where Mr MacSween gained 45% of the votes in my poll, just beating "It doesn't matter, they'll lose anyway" with 25%. That multiple voting may have occurred is assumed, so it as scientific and accurate as you want it to be.

Mr MacSween has been kind enough to pass me some of his press releases, and I hope that he will continue to do so. So I can pass accurate, erudite and witty comment on whatever high horse he gets onto, and bring it to the attention of the wider public.

Cllr MacSween has a big problem in getting elected. That problem is, of course, the Labour Party and particularly the maladroit mismanagement of issues by the PM and his colleagues. If they carry on like this, he may have wished he had remained outside the Labour Party.

Let battle commence!

Anon 12:39
An example of the SNP's sense of humour.

At least it's slightly better than what was beaten back in May, and miles better than what won in May (both in 2005 and 2007).

It is good to see that DJ can work with all different parties for the benefit of the Islands. His teaming up with Donald Manford as chair and vice-chair is superb as both put party politics behind them for the benefit of the Islands.
What an MP he will make. I am sure we will not have to be asking to name 5 things DJ has done for the Islands unlike ABM.
Oh by the way anyone still have a clue what he has done for the Islands.

This news absolutely guarantees that I will not be voting for Labour at the next election.

One thing the previous incumbent could never be accused of is self-promotion or self-interest; he worked tirelessly for the benefit of the people of these Isles and much further beyond. That's why he's a respected figure both at home and at Westminster. You might not have agreed with all of his more latter decisions, but you can certainly be confident they were made for the 'right' reasons - and he must have known they would cause damage to him.

On the other hand, I'm afraid MacNeil's already delusional ego was completely unleashed when he got elected - and it's clear where his priorities lie. Self interest and promotion is the name of his game. The guy is ignorant and a disgrace.

I do, honestly, believe the above are truisms.

Macsween is a more unknown quantity, certainly to me. But I strongly suspect he'll fit more into the former category than the latter one.

I don't hold out too much hope for him, tho' - the Islanders shot themselves badly in the foot when they elected MacNeil (I mean, for pity's sakes...), but there is, sadly, a delusional arrogance in many Islanders too - with a bit too much 'Scots Wha Hae' and not enough rational thought.
