Call to take Lewis Chessmen home

wooden object and large chess piece
The Councillor for Uig has called for the Lewis Chessmen to be sent home.

That will be to Norway then, Norman, won't it?

Or do you think the Elgin Marbles belong in Morayshire?

Cllr MacDonald is on the left, er right, er left, er ... one of the two in the photo.  Probably.

Please feel free to treat this as a caption contest.

The picture shows a large wooden object, and a Lewis Chessman....

Norway? Really? Are the Norwegians claiming them back? And, where these wee men taken by force by raiding Scots?

Uig sounds like a good compromise home for them.

Why would Norway be their home? The likelihood is that these pieces were carved by Viking craftpersons :-) actually living in the area.

The Vikings were here for generations, not for a two week holiday in a caravan at Reef. They interbred with the locals and thus became islanders. Evidence of this can be seen most weekends in the Lewis downstairs and the Clachan.

There's no evidence whatsoever though for the notion put forward by the 'experts' in London that the pieces were found at any location other than Ardroil. They're just going into panic mode because the voices demanding their return to Lewis (or at least Scotland) are getting ever louder. Quite right too!

You missed Kilda Centre in Uig from list of stolen items. Interesting that the stench of the St. Kilda centre fix hasn't cleared the air and one of Brian Wilson's Fluffers is now wishing the Chessmen be returned to their rightful home.

Uig is chessmen's rightful home, but CNES should (to be consistent) grant a £30k "independent" study to Jura Cuntsultants to see where they should be housed.

Then after an intensive study and the criteria being changed 82 times the recommendation will be that Lewis Chessmen are housed in Barra as it reflects the spirit of Chess most strongly; Having the most Bishops!

This was always a point that was raised during the Kilda debate and one they could never answer. CNES would never issue such a study in the extremely unlikely event that these would be returned here... Oh the hypocrisy of it all!

Will Councillor Macdonald now be repatriating the Tormod Mor Tankard (old football trophy now in the Uig Museum) back to the L&H Football Association - the rightful owners?
