Tackling the BNP

It is no good having ex-Generals complaining about the BNP 'hijacking' symbols of Britain's military successes and expecting anything to com from it, other than good publicity for the BNP.

If they have successfully used Churchill or (ironically and unwittingly) Polish spitfire pilots as part of their campaign against immigration, then that is because they understand how to connect with their key voters and their potential voters. Perhaps better than any other party.

If they are the only party playing on folk memories as an electoral tool, then they are doing because it is effective.

Presumably these same ex-Generals wouldn't want to see any PM awarding medals to the military in case that could be perceived to be some kind of implied political advantage for Gordon Brown or David Cameron.

The bottom line is that a political party that we don't like is able to deliver its message efficiently and effectively; and instead of addressing the issue too many people want to brush it under the carpet, which will only invigorate its activists and supporters who ill feel further marginalised and excluded by political society.

If the military symbols are significant and strike a strong positive chord with voters, then the mainstream parties need to use these images and attitudes to draw people away form the negative and poisonous views of the BNP and back into the the fold.

All we are doing is making martyrs and storing up trouble for the future, when decisive leadership is urgently needed.

I don't particularly relish seeing the BNP on Question Time, but they need to be exposed, and beaten in logical argument, and the responsibility lies with the other members of the panel to put aside their own divisions and achieve that single important end.

Firstly, I don't agree with the BNP's ramblings and can think of better ways to spend my time than listening to them.
However, they have some public support and have elected members in the European parliament, so I guess they cannot be denied a seat at the table. To deny them a seat would be to lower the others to the BNP's level of discrimination.
I have to wonder though, how is the BNP is gaining such support, and the answer is easy, it's because there is no better option than them.
What do the other parties represent now.....apart from feathering their own nests.
Bunch of gready two faced bastards and the BNP are just as bad....

i personally don't agree with the BNP either but i do want to see them on QT. i will be laughing all the way to the white dot. the BNP are a one trick pony - they have no other policies but 'N#####s out!' This will possibly be the greatest tool for stopping them getting elected for a LONGGGG time. i hope they will learn their lesson at the next parliament. they are a nasty bunch of idiots!

The SNP have only got where they are because they have a leader who chooses to lead, not follow every wind of change. take the release of mugabe or however you spell it a very unpopular move but the point of leadership is not to be popular (otherwise he is not a leader, but a god) the point of leadership is to do the right thing for the country!

People don't like it when some one who is supposed to be a leader asks them for advice all the time - they tend to realise after a while that he can't lead. LAB take note.

So when Angus was Chair of the Environmental Committee of the Comhairle he was a true leader by helping to vote through the huge Lewis Wind Farm as he did it as the right thing for the Islands and not necessarily to be popular?

It's good to see someone from the SNP suddenly showing some sense.

Well, I watched it last night and actually felt sorry for him (I still cannot abide the man though).
He was put in front of a studio audience, (that was by the BBC's own admission vetted before hand), and they were clearly selected by the BBC and the Labour party to be the most hostile crowd possible. Not the most democratic display I have ever seen, but then we are dealing with Labour and Auntie.
I actually think that the vote for the BNP will increase at the next elections and we might even see a BNP MP in Westminster

Good to see the SNP are right on top of things.

I almost wet myself laughing when I read this line

Maybe this was just a slip of the tongue and the SNP government have another bit of compassion up their sleeve and are planning to offer Mugabe political asylum in Scotland should he ever need it...

5:49 i do not consider myself a member of the SNP. And i agree with the LWF i think they will be a boon to the island.

PS do you really think I'd be offering the LAB's free advice if i was SNP!

Come on, disponded don't you remember the first time the SNP were on QT? ANYONE new on QT can expect a hard time... Even new people from old parties get a little bit of a going over! I felt not the least bit sorry for him... it only proves how dangerous it would be for him to lead the country... he does not know what he is doing!

Not feeling sorry for him, but it was a shambles and completely biased, editorially and from the chair which is not acceptable. Next week are we to have an audience of right wing racists lynching a black labourite? An unpalatable un-pc suggestion maybe, but there is a point. We either have free speech or we don't.

Thought it amusing that Griffin was castigated and put down for most things he said. Then, at the end of the programme, they all agreed that the Daily Mail columnist who wrote about Stephen Gateley had the absolute right to free speech!!!
