Calling in

Word reaches me that the Comhairle are appalled at our MP and MSP campaigning against the school restructuring.

I understand that senior Councillors and Officers are disgusted that they have attacked the Council discussion on the future of education in the Western Isles, instead of working with the Comhairle to campaign for increased resources to keep the schools open. "They ignore the Council, and work for the their party", said a very senior individual.

This comes on top of repeated failures of the representatives to keep in touch with the Comhairle. When I was there, Mr MacNeil repeatedly refused to meet with the Convener, Vice-Convener and Chief Executive to be appraised of the plans for renewable energy, and it took over six months and a threat before he deigned to come in. Even then, he sneaked in at short notice, and the relevant Chairmen were not told and able to hear what he had to say. I understand it has got worse since then.

I'd welcome details of the discussions in due course.

Two sides to this one.

First, you're dead right, MacNeil and Allan are a disgrace to the WI and have lost all credibility (Allan before he left the starting blocks).
Secondly, the Comhairle Members need to be careful that they're not 'railroaded' into submission here because the education report for next week is full of flaws and too open ended. Might we see legal action against education again, I wonder? Seems to be a classic case of trying to take advantage of new Members. But by who is the big Q. Is it an internal financial quango?

I am sure Angus and you will be the first to admit that this was not the case when Alasdair Morrison and Calum Macdonald represented the Islands. They did not have to be asked to meet the council as they did this as their duty. For along with the council they worked for the Islands. Not like the two clowns we have supposedly representing us now.

Hear, Hear, madrudhach.

Calum Macdonald always put party-politics aside and was prepared work with any 'opposition' in order to benefit the Islands.

The sharp report of several thousand Islanders collectively shooting themselves in the foot a couple of years ago resonates more loudly than ever across our brown and barren* land.

(* but still very beautiful!)

Oh, what a poetic metaphor!

Just remind us, who was it that made the front page of the Sy Gazette for describing the LWP and BMP wind factory proposals as, quote, "a complete waste of time and energy"??

Angus,
Are you familiar with this blog? http://alasdairallan.blogspot.com/

Oops, was that a wee plug there, anonymous?

Surely Angus is already familiar with said blog...very familiar!

Paranoia isn't very becoming Eyoop....
You and your mates will start using software to prove that the author is one and the same as you did during the campaign.
Or maybe, just maybe there is someone else out there who finds Mr. Allan a pathetic, controlled individual.

Isn't your memory failing you, SSU? Wasn't it Angus who mentioned a while back on this very blog that he had used such software to compare posters here with some on Sy-chat??

I wouldn't bother, myself. I have better things to do with my time!

Mind you, I do often wonder where that 'Lewis Girl' on Sy-chat went...

I think you need to check your facts Eyoop, or maybe you don't like being rumbled.

Me too Eyoop, along with Ochan Ochan, Archie and 346. I think they have crawled back into their little holes until the next election campaign or maybe the SNP brainwashing process is taking a little longer with those who have very little brain to start with.

Seeing as no-one answered my earlier question, I'll do it myself: it was Calum Macdonald, three weeks after being voted out as MP, and one week before the Council met to 'decide' on the LWP application. I applaud him for that action, which was obviously carefully timed for maximum effect. If he'd acted earlier, he might well still be MP, but there ya go.

I stick to what I said, SSU, simply because it's true. It was Angus who used the software. It's mentioned by him on this blog (or on sychat) somewhere. Right Angus? Do confirm or deny.

There was a lot of devious behaviour going on during the election campaign, which backfired quite badly on NuLab (assuming of course that it was NuLab that were responsible, rather than a few disgruntled former SNP members). Whoever it was, those responsible can surely take little comfort in the fact that the ABM story, or rather the manner in which it was released and timed, lost Labour the seat here. Period. Who was it shot themselves in the foot??

p.s. "crawling back into their little holes"..."very little brain to start with"...hmmm, contemptuous, aren't you? Don't you have any debating skills at all? I thought this was a discussion blog rather than a firing range.

I remember the posting, which was quite funny (odd, rather than ha! ha!) but I can't find it.

I didn't make the claim, and if someone can help me find the post, I'll be grateful.

I believe this is the post I was thinking of Angus, although there might also be something similar on your own blog ...somewhere!

Fair enough though, according to this you didn't actually use plagiarism software. I apologise for 'misremembering'.

Thank you for finding this post, I had forgotten it was on Stornoway Chat, and would never have looked there.
