Moles

Councillor or senior employee of the Comhairle?I understand that my former colleagues and all the new Councillors were flame grilled by the Vice-Convener yesterday at their not away day, to try to find the source of my previous posting.

Why limit your suspicions to the elected members?

As always, my lips are sealed about my sources, and I look forward to receiving a copy of the response from John Swinney in due course.

Note to BBC and Gazette: please read the copyright notice, and mention my Blog when you lift stories!

I heard the councillors were having a go at everybody yesterday, their officials, the press, the MP, the MSP, their web site, everyone really but themselves!

Am glad the councillors have issue with their website. Was going to write a letter about it to the Gazette, but the 700 word limit means a lot of problems and deficiencies would have been left out...

Silversprite, you are assuming that your letter would get published. Unless it's anti-windfarm and pro-SNP you wouldn't stand a chance.

I hear that Mr Vice C was complaining that this letter was confidential.

Maybe he should learn that the FOI Act was brought in to ensure that correspondence like this could enter the public domain.

Anyway, why is he so angry at Angus making this public? He is obviously a closet SNP supporter. Who else would be annoyed that the people of these Islands can see for themselves the proposed damage being done by the Scottish Government with no backup from our SNP MP or MSP?

I don't know about the VC being a closet SNP supporter. On the contrary I think there are a lot of Labour lovies at high level in the 'independent' Comhairle who enjoyed (still enjoy) cosy relationships with the former MP and MSP - and the anger spouting out in all directions at present is due to their frustration at the SNP's surprise victories locally and at Scottish Government level.

fairy nuff, Labour tend too get annoyed at ANYthing being in the public domain. Makes you wonder how the bill ever got into public!

Why give the Gazette such a hard time?

If the SNP are getting any additional coverage (which I don't actually think they are), surely it's because they're in government and driving the news agenda. Here and nationally the SNP are simply getting the coverage Labour got when they were in government. That's the way the media works don't you know. The SNP used to complain about side lined and now it's Labour's turn.

Get used to it guys - there's at least another 4 years of pain to go through, and maybe the pain will turn out to be terminal!

But hey, you've always got the 'independent' West Highland Free (that's a joke bye the way) Press to call your own.

The West Highland was never and never has claimed to be independent, so your comparison is a false one.

The Gazzette clamis to be politcally neutral. These claims are laughable. Everyone knows it so why bother denying it?

I don't think anybody in the local SNP would agree that the Gazette is favourable to them.

The Gazette never provides editorial or columnist support of the SNP unlike Brian Wilson's column in the WIFP which is so clearly anti-SNP and pro Labour.

For every news item in the Gazette on the work the current MSP and MP are doing there seems to be at least two supplied by Peter Peacock MSP who despite Macsween now being in place seems to remain the Western Isles Labour Party's main mouthpiece since they LOST the local election and government in Scotland.

Please do continue with your anti-SNP rantings. It's a real vote winner for the SNP!

People really aren't interested in the pre-election fisticuffs between the parties. They want to move on and see Scotland prosper on all fronts.

Why can't you bring your Labour talents to an independant Scotland? Loads of ordinary Labour voters are proudly Scottish and like nearly all voters in England are in favour of indepedence. It's only Labour activists that are against it because of the power thing.

Why don't you and 'sunny side up' be one of the first to launch a 'Labour for Independence' splinter group and have a real say in the future of Scotland.....

Yes - the Labour Councillor Rita Macdonald used to be my Coiuncillor and she once told me she wasn't adverse to Scotland being independent.

I'm a Labour voter and I would like to see Scotland becoming independent. An independent Scotland could still be run by Labour. We've got the talent but what's happening south of the border is dragging us down.

you're in for a 'suprise' if you actually think that labour wd even give independence a thought if they were back in.... exept maybe to make sure it could never happen (ie make us dependant on England)

The SNP have been given a gift with that one seat majority in Holyrood. Whereas their only audiences were the party faithfull at conferences, Salmond and his team now has unprecedented access to the civil service, the media, unions, Cosla, you name it and with another 4 years in this pole position the strategy must be to do such a good job at turning things around that no-one will ever want to look back.
